Dual Rec Rackmount vs. Divinity

I was just wondering what you guys how you guys think Mesa Dual Rectifier Rackmount stacks up to the Madison Divinity. Im considering purchasing one of these two amps. And was thinking I could get some input on them. Still looking for the Nevermorish type of tone. I heard that Nevermore used Krank and Dual Recs on the This Godless Endeavor and I'm lookin to get a variation of that tone. I'd appreciate any input.

They used the Recto rackmount on TGE, too .

In all honesty, based on everything I've heard, seen, read, etc... the Divinity is a fucking joke.

a fucking joke? thats weird, i always thought it was a pretty damn good amp. i actually though it was a little muddy but that might've been the stock tubes or the guitar i dunno. but the racktifiers are legendary in there own right.

I take JerryP's opinions and experiences, as well as pictures of the damn amp with duct tape in it fairly seriously. Jerry is a great guy and know's what he's talking about.

I talked to Jerry over e-mail; he's a stand up guy, has a good rep too.

I am glad I only paid $450 for my Chinese-made head

Really. We've had a few members here buy them and have good things to say about them - this Jerry guy may have had a bad experience, but off the top of my head Strychnine and LordOfChaos are both quite happy with theres, and 2-for-3 hardly qualifies as a "fucking joke."

Also, I'm kinda intrigued by their use of a 12AT7 in the high gain stage...

Jerry's commentary was on the build quality, and some buzzing and popping issues. It's definitely enough to put me off of them - not that I'm looking, but you know what I mean - just like a similar Engl discussion yielded some internal construction shots that dampend my curiosity for them. My stuff travels, and it needs to not break...

I still have yet to sit in a room with a Divinity, so I can't really comment on the tone, other than to say the recorded bits I've heard didn't really impress me - but who's do?

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

I just read through twenty five pages (and I hope you appreciate my sacrifice, lol) of discussion on Harmony Central, and the worst this Jerry guy has to say about it is this:

Quote:
You guys aren't listening, never did I say the amp will self destruct in 5 minutes. It has several issues that I've seen, some are minor, some aren't.
This amp is a copy, no other way to see it if you look at both schematics and you know anything about amps at all.
It was copied wrong. Some things look like they were changed to save money and keep the amp inexpensive. Other changes may have been to keep it from being an exact copy and brining on the lawyers, I don't know, I'm just guessing there.
The amp has apparently had some changes done like the contour, now switching to shared EQ, etc.

The one thing I just realized as I was looking to see what changes needed to be done to the bias circuit to use 6L6's in the amp was the cheap shit 2 cent bias pots they're using have the bias voltage coming off the wiper terminal of the pot. This is stupid and could (probably will) fail at some point causing the tubes to redplate and burn up. The bias circuit is one of the most important circuits in the amp and using the pots this way is an accident waiting to happen.
As you probably know, pots get dirty, they crackle, they cut out, etc. Cheap ass Chinese pots have even more likelihood of this happening. If the pot gets dirty and the amp loses it's bias voltage it will be bad.
It may not have happened to your amp yet, I'd make sure you carry a backup amp.
Jerry

Edit: In looking further at the Divinity and Marshall schematic I realized Marshall uses this same foolish bias pot setup. Stupid! At least they use a btter quality pot, still not the safest design. The more I compare them, the more stuff I see copied.
In short, it's a low-cost TSL clone with a few tweaks, one design flaw of it's own, and a couple carried over from the Marshall. The worst he really says about it is that he's concerned about the durability, not the tone.

It's not an amp I'm terribly interested in myself - it's designed to get a very different tone than I go for - but still, DSS3, calling it a "fucking joke" based on this guy's comments is both misquoting him rather badly, and SURE to provoke the guys on the board who like their Madison's - maybe try posting with a little more tact? C'mon, it won't kill you.

Mike, who's do? John Petrucci.
