Noise Gate recommendations needed

I recently puchased a Marshall JMP-1, a Mesa 2:90 Simul Class slave and a TC G-Major. I was hoping I could use the noisegate in the G-Major, but it just doesn't do the trick. I play Thrash and Death Metal and often play riffs full of sudden breaks and therefore I need a really effective noisegate. At the same time I also play lots of leads and I would therefore need to be able to control the noisegate, so that I in lead situation can reduce the noisegate effect. I totally hate it when noisegate chops of notes when playing lead!

Can you guys recommend a good rack noisegate for this purpose? I have been reading a lot about Rocktron Hush, but dunno if that's the best for me.

that sounds like a killer rig! got any pics?

i have a G-Major myself, and use the noisegate on it, but i don't play much thrashy stuff. have you tried adjusting the threshold value to try and get what you're looking for?

i've tried the Rocktron Hush pedal, and in my opinion it was a piece of crap. of course, i was using it between an old effects unit and the amp, which damped out effects. however, i was getting it so that it might kill the hiss i was getting from my effects unit at the time. ...an all around crappy experience

i should mention that i've heard good things about the Rocktron Hush rack units.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I've had good luck with Alesis and Carvin noisegate/compressors. I've always like having them both together,,,one sort of goes with the other for me.

I've heard that the ISP Decimator comes highly, highly recommended. There's a rackmount version aswell, take a look here. It's supposed to be the best, most trasnparent noise gate you can get.

ya, I've got one, really does the trick...I've got the pedal version, but I'm moving to a somewhat rack-based setup, so I may try out the rack unit

Yep, ISP Decimator. I have one too and it's awesome. Does the job perfectly. I have a review up in the review forum that you can check out. Just do a search in there.

That Rackmount Decimator is an expensive little puppy though! I think it's about $400 but if you want the best ya gotta pay for it.

I wouldn't recommend the hush, I found it to suck a bit of tone. Some people like it so still try it for yourself.

I went for the pedal as, like you said, the rack is insanely expensive, and the pedal does the job pefectly and only cost $119.

ISP decimator, run it infront of the amp. You might find you dont need to use the G-Major's noisegate anymore, but I'd do it anyways.
