Recommend me a good power amp

Ok, possibily upgrading to a PodXT Pro for my main rig going into Genz-Benz G-Flex 2x12 cabs. Lately I've been a bedroom jammer, but I am seeking a spot in a band, primarily metal. I would most likely use the XLR outs to the board for the mix, but I would want to power a 2x12 or two for some stage monitoring. I do have kind of a low budget, say about $750 MAX.

+1 - or find a used VHT 2/50/2. Hard to go wrong with either, although I haven't priced them lately...

I'm with Noodles. You can't go wrong with Mesas. They're not that expensive, you can find quality used ones on Ebay, they all sound like God, and you never have to re-bias them when you change the tubes.

Mesa 20/20
Mesa 50/50 (or the new Stereo 2:Fifty, it's basically the same amp)
Mesa 2:90

Those are the three I'd recommend. If you're a retro guy, maybe a mesa simulclass 295 from the 80s, or if you don't think the 200 watts of tube power you'd get from the 2:90 is enough (it's not really 180 w, they underrate their amps) Mesa made a monster in the mid 90s called the Coliseum 300. I have no idea why you'd ever need that much power, but if you can find one, it's a pretty metal amp.

VHT makes some great power amps too, but IMO not ever having to have an amp biased is the icing on the cake for owning a Mesa.

I've got a buddy with that Carvin, and they sound pretty damn good. I think the Mesa is a better choice, though.

I remember the Coliseum 300. Huge Amp!

I've used Carvin stuff before. These are really straight-forward power amps. Quiet and they don't color the tone very much.

I had a buddy with two Strategy 400s in his rack, each running four cabs. He was, uh, LOUD.

I have yet to hear a bad Mesa power amp.
