![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've had a lot of gear underwhelm me, but thats cos I'm very picky about what I like. I hate Marshall's with a passion, and I dont rate Mesa's either. I don't like any Peavey except the JSX isn't bad. Any modelling gear I've tried has made me cry at how bad they were (shame I bought a POD unheard, can't stand the bloody thing now). I own an Engl Thunder 50 and that thing blows me away everytime I hear it. The only set-up though thats really got me by the balls and hung me by them other than my own is any Cornford amp I've tried. The Hellcat was lovely although a little lacking in the features I'd need. The MK50H was perfect, I would rate it alongside any Engl I've played, Cornford are the only company I rate anywhere near Engl's. |

my favorite local store caries VHT, Koch, Bogner, Soldano, Orange, Framus and a gang of other botique amps Ive never even heard of. Of course Ive actually never tried most of em either, because Im honest and admit to them I have no money for another amp Ive been meaning to go back and try this certain Koch model, because one of the salespeople told me it beats the Bogner Ubershall, but is a 3rd the price. Cant remember the model name though. Im very skeptical though, being that the people there dont seem to really be into the modern high gain amps. oh well, dreaming is free

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The Soldano Decatone probably impressed me the most. Only if it had independent eq-ing for each channel. Then the Hughes & Kettner Triamp. There were also a couple of higher end Trace Elliot amps that were cool to. Can't remember what they were called... ![]() |

permission granted. The funny thing is, I didnt even know this store exisisted until a year ago. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and after a while I thought Id have to go to Los Angeles to find botique amps. (for the record, Mesa IS a botique amp, one of the first actually)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You know, a buddy of mine owned (still does, I think, but I haven't seen him in rather a while) a TriAmp- wasn't really floored. It was very Marshall-y, very crunchy, and that wasn't really my thing at the time. Although, it sure as hell looked cool... I wouldn't mind spending some more time tweaking it, though, to see if I could get anything I liked out of it on a second try, or maybe play with a set of 6l6's to see if that made a difference. Course, the fact it's 150 watts and I was playing in a dorm room didn't help- he bought it off a guy who'd picked it up for an arena tour opening for Collective Soul (Ross Childress is one of the best guitarists in a sucessful band you never hear about, by the way- the guy's a huge Steve Morse fan, and when you hear him take one of his (sadly, rare) solos, you can totally tell), and still had his settings taped on- the master was marked at 3, lol. -D |
