yes this is true, i do need to get myself a nice acoustic.. but the flexability that a pedal would offer would be nice too

Again, for like the fifth time, post constructively in the regular forums or don't post at all.

You fuckers have it all wrong. THIS is acoustic modeling.

Outside of that, acoustic simulators aren't the greatest. If you want a good acoustic sound from an electric, you should start with piezos.

edit: I find that position 4 on an Ibanez 5-way gives me a nice clear sound, as it puts two coils in a parallel configuration. Play with the tone knob, tweak the presence, and you might be surprised...

BOSS has some acoustic modeling capability in the GT-6 (and GT-8) which they also now have in stand-alone pedal form. (There's also an older model... the AC-2.)

The effect is quite good. With a lot of tweaking, a good amp (or PA) and the right touch, it's passable in a live situation, but not a dead ringer for the real thing. I find a neck-position single coil works best at getting the timbre right, but playing a piezo-equipped guitar makes it sound even more realistic, but still not as good as the real thing.

I'm surprised Line 6 hasn't applied some of their Variax knowledge to create some very basic guitar modeling pedals.

@ Ken. Dude, yer crazy.

I thought the Boss GT series acoustic modelling was pretty decent. Granted, the technology isn't quite there yet to make non-piezo electrics sound entirely convincing, but like Darren says, they're passable in a live setting with a full mix.
