![]() | Two guitarists + New heads = Issues So my co-guitarist and I are ready to upgrade to tube amps, and we've debated quite a bit, but he seems to be set on a Triple Rec. Though, everyone says that a Rectifier will absolutely dominate the mix and eat up other amps besides the 5150, Soldano SLO, and Mark IV. How true is this? Would his recto sound really drown out all these other amps? Considering this, what amps should I look at that can cut through and balance with the beastly low mid growl of a Triple Rec? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | it all depends on the guitars used, the pickups in them, how you play, and how he sets his EQ. what's the budget? 3 cheers for free gear! "Do you like burned toast with your JAM? cuz we're on FIRE!" ![]() |

The old standby would be a couple 5150s |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i'd even (most definitely) consider a JSX as well. KT77's, a boost, the right guitar and the proper EQ (and a CL80'd/etc cab).. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | QFT! ![]() if you have V30's in your 212, sell 'em for 2 WGS British Leads. KT77 a peavey JSX (used), boost it with a TSovChaos from Joe. try out some suggested EQ settings, and proceed to administer teh br00talz. and hang with a triple rec ![]() sounds like with the recto, he'll have more of the low mids covered - so you take the high mids, and provide a wash of awesomeness o'er the crowd. |

That said, if you are in a 2 guitar band and one has a Triple Rec and the other a Peavey, the chances are good the Peavey will get dominated. The Triple Rec is REALLY loud man. IMO excessively powerful. It's the loudest amp I've ever played as a matter of fact. I personally recommend your bandmate get a Dual Rec as it blends with other amps better. Yes I know you can just turn the volume down or use an attenuator, but I still found the Triple's "sweet spot" to be too fucking loud. ![]() * zimbloth waits for Triple Rec owners to chime in ![]() Really just focus on getting the best amp you can for your budget. Everything else will work itself out in the end. What kind of tone are you looking and what is your budget? Also keep in mind speakers and pickups are every bit as crucial as the amp. ![]() Off the top of my head though, to answer your question: I'd look into a VHT Pittbull CL/100 or UL, ENGL Invader, Framus Cobra, or in the extremely unlikely chance you could find one - a used Mesa DC-10 (much different tone than a Recto, may blend well). I would not even consider anything under 100w, and Peavey's 120w sounds like 50 Mesa watts (if that), nevertheless 150. So be careful. I know this sounds crazy, but I saw Behemoth recently, one guy used a Recto and the other a Krank, and it actually was a kickass combination. I'm not condoning buying a Krank necessarily, but... just being honest. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That mix is similar to what we have in Withersoul right now, me with my Dual Rectifier and Vader cab dominate the low mid range and Nates SpiderValve with his Marshall 1960 is realllllllly focused in the high mid. |

![]() | It really depends on how your guitarist runs the Triple. As a Triple owner myself, I can attest to the power and huge volume. But if he is a scooped mids guy, then there is a good chance that the amp will vanish in the mix with the bass. It would be loud, but it would rumble more than anything. The only advice I have for the both of you is not to get the same model amp. Like these other guys have said you guys need to have different tones to sound the best. Buy the best tube amp you can afford. Make sure it is high gain. If you can afford it, make sure that it is a high end amp like a Mesa, top of the line Marshall, Soldano, High end Peavey, or other comparable amp. You will be happier longer with a high end amp and won't have to spend more money down the road to upgrade. |
