here's somethign I can say on my tunings: on -12 dB, the low end is HORRIBLE. Very flobby from two feet away. it sounds muddy and unclear. Should I turn the master volume up? It's pretty high and loud.

The covered(foil) ones are preamp tubes, those are the power tubes.

Well the Mark series are voiced much different from the Recto's, it's much more of a hot rodded Marshall tone, so don't let one bad experience ruin your opinions of all Mesa's, though I do understand where your coming from, it does suck spending $1000+ on an amp and not being 100% happy with it. The series II Stilletos and Mark III/IV would suit you much better than a Recto I belive, and IMO are better than any Marshall though similar in tone.

I see, man. We'll see how it goes.

@Toshiro, would the V1 be the foil ones or the power tubes? I'm going to be wearing this n00b badge for a long long time.

V1 is the first of the smaller foil covered preamp tubes, not the larger ones which are the power tubes

Thank ye very much!

I've gotten a sound I like out of the Mesa after messing around a little, though it's still not as good as I want from the low end, even a few inches away from the speakers. I'll try to work on that--switching to "Modern" on Orange works well. PErhaps I'll delve into the red 3rd.

2) So you think I should spring for an Ibanez TS-9 from LordovChaos? Or a default one? Seems fine to me but then again it's my first pedal.
3) There's some mental block with me and the third channel, I prefer to use the orange in vintage, but if I'm becoming this desperate, why not. In fact yes, I DID try out the settings! Moving into the next room the low end was flobby but everything else was fine, which...well you read above what I did wrong, lol.
4) I play Necrophagist music and I always pick hard. Sometimes for tremolo I pick light but it's still a hard kinda light.
5) I have my gain on 12:00, if anything, a tick above 12 on 3rd, and 1 on 2nd channel.
6) That sounds fine, I think you did one before too.
Yeah, I never turn my amp past 8o'clock without wearing some kind of hearing protection!

Your settings seem to be OK, you pick hard, you have the LordOvChaos SD... Even though I love my Triple, it just migh be that the Recto tone just isn't for you.

The Recto isn't really what you are looking for if you are after a Necrophagist kind of tone. The Rectifier is very organic and raw sounding.

Was the tracked Recto tone ok for your ears? Of course I tend to EQ the amp my own way, so you might not like the tone I like.
