New speakers

I currently have a B52 AT-412 cab with the stock speakers in it.

The cab sounds ok, but I play in a metal band in drop A and it doesn't have that low end punch I'm looking for (I know some of that is due to my head but, I see a road king in my future and I want the most brutal tone I can get

)

Anyways, I wanted to get swamp things and switch out the speakers. the only problem is that I cant afford to get the road king within a decent amount of time AND four $80 speakers so, I was just going to buy two and leave two of the stock B52 speakers in.

Is this a bad idea?

Will it sound bad?

The recordings that are up now are from before I was even in the band and they are in drop C but maybe you'll get the idea.

that should read "tell me what you think!"

as for speakers - do you need a great head through a decent cab, or do you need a decent head through a good cab?

either get all 4 spears, or get the RK. your call as to which is first.

You know, I've actually heard some pretty brutal tone through the AT-100.

Try this out, are you still using the stock tubes? If so, try a new set from Eurotubes I've heard that these REALLY help the B52s as they come stock with pretty shitty tubes (I know, I owned one)

The B52 cab construction is pretty nice, throwing some Eminences in that would be a good idea.

I've heard better results from "crappy head+nice cab" than I have "nice head+shitty cab"

well I'm hoping the cab with the new speakers will sound good, I mean I've heard great heads through this cab and i think its really under-rated. its a fucking tank.

and I'm not going to retube my amp because I fell in love with the road king and I'm willing to upgrade haha.

my tone is ok now, its just not where i want it.

I was kidding, I usually put "tell me what you think" but I hate getting all compliments to be honest haha. I love constructive criticism and I can take it like a champ.

Read my first post again.

The B52 is a well built cab, with crappy speakers, replace the speakers and you'll have a much better cab.

Lets put it this way, with my Vader cab which is Eminence loaded I got good tones out of a B52 LG100.
