i keep hearing good things about these Blue Steels. can you describe how they compare to D'Addario's XL's (10's)?

and they make 7 string packs? bonus!
i'm pretty sure D'Addario makes a 7 string pack for the 10 gauge, but i think the next time i get new strings, i want to get a beefier 7string. right now i think i have a 56 on it. i may try a 60 or a bit higher.

they are damn near indestructable The windings dont get all deformed and they resist crud buildup

As for sound You know when you typically change strings and the tone is bright as hell 'til the strings stretch a bit? then as your strings get older the tone gets worse and worse?
With blue steels the tone starts off bright but there is not a whole lot of tonal difference after you put them on. get really good harmonics and really punchy sound from em...Shit I even use the acoustic ones on my Wasburn.

The only DAddarios I use use is a .56 for the 7th string on my 7's (thats the brand my dealer sells for loose strings...)

I used to use boomers and IMO blue steels kick the living crap out of them

I like a .56 for my 7th I use 9 11 16 26 36 46 56 (bluesteel custom lights with an added string for the 7) tho the D'Addario sounds crappy compared to the rest of the set...not overly but enough for me to tell the difference

I prefer Ernie Ball's .10's with a .58 for the low B. They seem to be the most consistent strings for teh money.

Looks like you have a few options- a regular light 9-54 set or a custom 9-56, for 9's, then a 10-56.

I might give e'm a try, I've heard good things about them, and they sure come in a pretty package... Been using GHS Boomers of late, 9-58- how do they compare? tone/durability?

I tried Blue Steels once and found them to be a little sterile sounding. In fact, most strings i've tried sound kind of toneless to my ear, with the exception of GHS Boomers, which seem to have a rich, lively "sponginess" to their tone that other strings don't seem to have. I guess that's why i keep using them.

But that's just my opinion.

IMO they have way better tone and durability than any other strings i have ever tried..

boomers sound really good when you first put them on then a few days of hard playing later they tend to start sounding bad plus the windings tend to get all deformed around the frets (tho not as much as cheap strings do..)... steels keep their tone for a lot longer and dont deform...

steels come shrink wraped in the box and the stings are in another sealed plastic bag so no air can get to em til you open the package

try a set..ya got nothing to loose I think you will like 'em
