Wiring a 4x12?
Seems to be some threads with hints of this inside, so I decided to create one rather then derail others threads which usually results in no answers for me.
So here it is. Is this a good way to wire a 4x12? I have a bunch of 8ohm speakers coming. I'm also told that you can test ohms with a voltmeter, is this correct and what is the proper procedure? Thanks.
GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT? Fitzgibbons 5000 ultra synapse accellerator which allows me to think faster than the masses and phase in and out of the matrix at will.

idk about a "volt meter" but a multimeter will do just fine, you can them from $5-$70, very handy for a guitarist, they are really simple to use, just turn the dial thing to ohms

Yeah I have a fluke 289, but don't really know much about it. Stole it and a dewalt chopsaw, cordless drill and several other items from the builder of my house that wouldn't fix a problem

Set your multimeter to ohms plug in your speaker cable to the cabinet, and touch the black probe to the sleeve and the red probe to the tip of the other end your speaker cable plug. This will give you a readings of ~14ohm for a 16ohm cab, 6-7ohm for an 8 ohm cab, and 2-3 ohm for a 4ohm load.

I wired up my 4-12" a different way. The old PV cab I own had really small gauge wires in it 24 gauge I think. When I went to 16 ohm Texas heats, I wired the cab with an extension cord (rated at wall current 2700 watts) into2-8ohm branches. The cab has no ohms switching or one input operation, but I made 2 custom y cables to either half or double (the "fourOhmulator" and the SixteenOhmulator respectively.) these are nothing more than a speaker cable cut in half and wired onto an input jack, series or parallel. The bigger hand wired cab is WAY more efficient and clearer sounding than it ever was before. Something to think about.
