Could it just be really bad luck with tubes? I've read that about 30% of new preamp tubes aren't suitable for a high gain first stage.

I dont understand how there are people that have no idea of what the hell theyre doing oand yet they get approved to do the repairs for certain companies.. I would shoot an E-mail to ENGL to express the incompetence of their so called approved techs. This is not a 10 dollar amp .

I hope everything gets sorted out bro!

Well, it has been five tubes now, and all of them did the same thing. Two ENGL tubes, one Sovtek, one JJ and one EH.

That's what I thought after two tubes, but after that I knew there was something wrong with the amp itself.

It was a bitch to admit that the amp that I just paid over 2000€ for, was "broken"

Cheers mate!

I did contact ENGL by sending them e-mail, but I didn't really mention the repair guy. I just said that he changed the preamp tube. I know, I am too soft!

But like I said, the amp is under warranty, so I will talk to the local music store before doing anything. I hope they will agree that a new amp would be the easiest way to go. But of course, it is up to the importer in the end.

I will take the amp back to the shop tomorrow, so we'll see. I don't really have no inspiration in having it "fixed" again though
