There arn't really many pedals that are going to sound good as your main distortion. You use a pedal usually to compliment your amps tone, not create it. If we're talking metal/rock tones anyway.

hahaha, yes i know the VJ for metal is nuts, most people think im nuts when i tell them thats what i use it for. but it actually does do well for metal with a good pedal in front of it, strangely enough, and it was cheap!!!!

and i do agree, the peavey bandit is a great amp!!! i generally dont use solid state amps, but i definately am not opposed to them if they sound great....and the bandit really does sound great.
