Cabinet choise dilemma! HALP!?

ok, so the site where i ordered my Engl cab has stopped working with engl, and i won´t be able to get the cab from them...

the cab is a stereo 4X12 with celestion V60 speakers.

i was offered a marshall 1960A or 1960B for the same price, but something tells me they´re not quite the same, being more classically oriented, and i never liked the marshall cab sound myself.

the closest thing i can get is a crate cabinet with v30s, but i´m not a huge fan of crate OR v30´s :P

so does anyone know a good cab for around 1162$ including shipping to norway? :P it has to be 4X12, have a good tight sound without brittle harshness, and it has to be stereo... the Engl 412SS is the perfect set of specs for my taste.

the site i was ordering from is playback-europe.com, where i like the prices, and everything over 500 euro is free shipping, which is the main attraction :P

for what head?

marshall cabs are harsh and they fart out pretty easily. Other than that, they go ok with rectos.

ENGL cabs only sound good with ENGL amps, imo. The v30 ENGL cab has a VERY pronounced midrange honk, and the V60 cab is more scooped, harsh and for some reason it's overall tonal character is dominant over the amp's settings. ENGL cabs are incredibly well constructed, but i can't recommend them for anything other than ENGL heads...

I can't comment on the crate cab, since i've only played they're cheap-ass no-name speaker cabs, which -of course- absolutely blow.

I highly recommend you the Orange PPC412. Untypical sounding for a v30 cab in every possible way. 3D-sounding, smooth highs, the tightest low-end you can possibly get out of a cab and awesome mids projection. I tested LOTS of cabs (including both ENGLS, mesa, randalls, marshalls...) before getting mine, and haven't heard one bad thing about them either.

edit: oh, best of all. The orange goes well with every amp i've used it with (dual rec, fireball, line 6), which i can't say for most of the other cabs referred (especially ENGL).

edit #2: oops, kinda overread the "has to be stereo". Well the orange comes with 2 parallel-wired output jacks for connecting additional cabs to it, so you could easily rewire it to be stereo.

i´m hooking it up to a stereo power amp with a pod X3, so i can tweak the tone as all hell to get it sounding right. i want to be able to have a bright tone without it fizzing out on me, hence the v60s. v30s would probably be fizzy. i use my buddy´s orange cab for practising with my other band, and can say that it´s not what i´m looking for. i couldn´t afford it anyways though.

and i need it to be stereo, because i want to use stereo effects and stuff with the pod.

so no orange, and highest i can go in price is 1 162$, because that´s all i have :P

i did try thomann, but the shipping alone sent it skyrocketing above the price, and with the VAT added, it´s 1437$, and that´s without import charges...

check this out:
Guitar Enclosure at Playback

if it doesen´t show the norwegian flag on the right side, click the little norwegian flag. this will add the norwegian VAT to the prices.

then, look for a cab that´s good for my type of usage that isn´t above 750 Euro, and isn´t Engl.

I thought their shipping was free over about £140 (~200 euros)?

True but they don't do that for Norway.
edit: I thought they weren't even shipping to Norway as they don't have a locale website for it.

Any chance of getting a Bogner in your price range? IMO they are a close second to Vader with Orange (black tolex of course) right beside them. Any of these cabs can easily be rewired to stereo.

well, if you already tried the orange and didn't like it i would go with the ENGL v60. It's built like a tank and you could swap speakers in case you're not happy with v60's. As far as construction quality vs price goes, the ENGL v60 cab is very good deal
