^ haha yea! Im also a Laney user, and I would easily recommend the V30s or similar speakers. For what its worth, Splawn makes amazing cabs. Although you would have to pay a little more to get a new one now, or try to find a used one as they take a month to build. I do like the sound of running both in stereo, I still have not had the privilege of having my ears hammered like that yet. Eminence makes some great speakers, not to mention American made and cheaper than Celestions. For them, the Governor is the equivalent to the V30. I run my cab with one, and a Celestion T75. Sounds good, but the T75 is adding a little too much high end fizz I find (basically the all-around response when compared to Eminence). They have a uniquely clean and sparkly clean sound when mixed with other speakers however. /ramble. I think it would benefit you to get a stereo equipped cab, unless you like carrying heavy bulky boxes around.

The Swamp Thangs have a meaty low mid growl that works perfect for the low notes on a 7. It won't over-do it with your Fireball, but it'll give the Laney some beef in the low end while taming the highs a little.

A Governor/Swamp Thang mix would be really great I imagine.

I'm not a fan of V30s at all, but if you like 'em go for it. I would not recommend bright speakers with the Laney though.

One of the reasons I always wanted the Laney was because of Paul Gilbert's presence loaded piercing lead tone. I have a feeling the vintage 30's would replicate that the best, and I know that the Fireball sounds pretty cool with those speakers. I usually set my tones to sound as modern and chunky as possible with a very small hint of 1980's treble growl. I just don't know what cab would suit all of those needs. I wish I could test out all of these speakers before having to order them, but the guitar stores around here are crap! In the long run I'm gonna have to rely on what people here recommend.

I have pictures of Paul's GH100L from the "Superheroes" era, his presence is on 4, treble on 3. Taming a bit of highs is not going to hurt you in the long run with these amps.

Edit: Dug the photos up for reference:

lol he ran the master volume at 2? That will make a big difference in tone.. I use pretty much the same settings on my VH100R though, but more bass.

I really appreciate the pics of his amp settings. I definitely love his lead tone in on that album. Legato is one of my strong points and I really like the way his tone sounds with it.
