I rarely ever even find the product I need at guitar center, I always end up ordering off the internet because all our GC stocks is generic "ZOMG I CAN SOUND LIKE AVENGENED SEVENFOLD"
Plus, last time I was in there I was shopping for a midi controller "Uhh....I know nothing about MIDI, try pro audio"

I have a similar problem. I do try to shop locally, but nobody ever has what I need. Anything 7-string related is especially a problem. Guitar Center has one Ernie Ball string set, a place called Melhart has that medium D'Addario set I end up using most of the time (I think at least 90% of their sales of that set are me, because there's always the exact same number left on the shelf as when I left last time unless I bought the last set), and that's it. Nobody sells single strings, either. I think the single 7321 GC has is the only 7-string guitar I've ever seen for sale around here.

Our GC has some decent sevens in stock some times, gear wise they just don't stock much "pro" stuff, nothing interesting, nothing boutique.

Plus, our GC isn't even a Mesa dealer, the only time you'll see a Mesa in there is if it's used or special order, which isn't very often. Although, I did see a Roadster combo in there once.

Rick, I hate to say it but I think you lose in this situation for even considering purchasing a poweramp from a place like GC and/or expecting competence from their burnt out employees.

Just scour eBay for something decent, perhaps the Mesa 20/20 or 50/50 or maybe even a Carvin tube poweramp.

Mine stocks VHTs like nobody's business.

Everthing else is like the horror stories posted here.

I second Zim's Carvin tube poweramp suggestion. I rock my PodXT with it and a Vader 2x12, and kinda only really see me upgrading to an X3, if it comes in a rack sometime

Dude dont buy from GC, keep it local. Support real Austin business. Try Music Makers or South Austin Music. At least the people there are knowledgable.

Shoot for a used 2:90 dude, you wont regret it.

yeah ive been to that GC and to Melheart, when i walk into a GC it feels like its a band recording at a studio. some jackass palying at the volume at 8 so everyone to here his shitty riffs. as for knowledge of the shit they sell, the most they can tell you is that "yeah thats a guitar", "and you want to buy 7 string pickups, do they make these, let me look on my computer."
