We've had members here find used power amps from many companies at GC.

dtrax has a spectacular aura about
I agree, he isn't a douchbag (which implies he's an asshole), but it's a sad state of affairs if they consider him their 'expert'.

I personally hate most music stores, chain or mom-n-pop. The chain stores typically have the least knowledgable staff, where as local shops tend to have elitist attitudes.

There's always exceptions to the rule, though. This local place called Tim & Terry's kicks ass. Its a two story building... Its a stage and bar on the first floor, and a music store on the top. Their service is great. And you can make 1 trip and get a 6 pack and a pack of strings. \m/

The first floor bar place also sells strings and picks and shit, so you can buy strings at like 1:30 AM!

That's what you get for expecting a competent answer from a GC employee.

Also, the Peavey 50/50 unfortunately has not been in production for a very long time. The closest thing in current production I'm aware of is that Carvin power amp.

That's cool! Reminds me of those combo tavern/laundromat places. My dad is a retired lawyer who brews his own beer, and he joked about opening a place called Bob's Brew & Sue.

As for GC, they might have a harder time now attracting good sales people. I haven't seen one of those places be really busy in a long time, outside of a couple of days around Christmas. They used to be a madhouse every Saturday. Hard to make a living selling to nonexistent customers.

this probably belongs in another thread but i'll say it here anyway...i work in retail (powersports). we're constanly losing business to the internet companies who buy in huge quantaties to allow for lower prices. we just can't compete with them when they're selling the same product for less than our cost. when people have problems with anything even related to what we sell, whether they bought it at our shop or not, they don't hesitate to call us to troubleshoot or to try and correct their fuck ups. what they don't realize is that unless they stop going after the 5$ savings local shops are gonna go out fast. gc isn't going anywhere but the local "elitist" shops who actually know what they're talking about aren't going to be around to service, demo, or educate. most music shops around me are happy to match or come close to internet prices anyway. i bought my 5150 at a local shop price matched at 780$ when they had it on the floor for 1000$.

Well Wal-Mart sell just about anything, from food to clothes. GC are music instruments stores. So they're specialized in a specific field. Even within each store, there is departments. A seller in the drums departement won't work in the bass department, right? So if a seller works in the guitar and amps department, he should AT LEAST know his shit a bit.

Because if you don't know what a freakin' power amp is, then you need to take your seller career to... a Wal-Mart. I agree you gotta arm yourself with knowledge before hand, but hey sellers are suposed to help you make the right decision (isn't it what they're paid for?!? Anyone could go and buy a guitar without them anyway), even if it seems really rare these days.

malufet is on a distinguished road
It really depends, I was on the market for a mesa triple or a roadster. The one i talked to really knows his mesa coz he owns a studio and manages a band.

He showed me some good settings and a ton of tips. All my questions were answered even the technical ones so i bought the roadster.

Its a well known fact that people who work in the electronics dept. dont know shit about electronics, dunno about the rest of the walmart.
