Boss GT-8 and Amp channel switching

Since midi will be a little too expensive right now i think I'll use a GT-8 for my multi-effect needs so my midi thread is kinda useless(i can't delete it on my own so i thought i'd do a smaller thread about what i really need to know)

I've read up a little further and i think a GT-8 should do what i want in a more cost-effective way than a full midi setup. The GT-8 has a single amp control switch that's obviously mono since it can only do one funtion.
The engl sovereing has a stereo switching jack for switching the main channels(clean/crunch + soft lead/heavy lead) on the mono terminal and between clean and crunch(mode 1 and two of main channel 1) on the stereo terminal.
Since i barely use crunch and soft lead i could set the amp up for clean on main channel1 and heavy lead on main channel 2 and then switch using the mono jack from the GT-8. As i see it the clean/crunch switching shouldn't be affected since it won't be in the circuit when using a mono jack. I could still switch on crunch and soft lead by hand but for live use i don't need them anyway.
Anyone else except myself thinks that this should work?
