Played the Stiletto Ace today...

...eh, only mildly impressed tbh. Not impressed enough to pay $1700

I played it with three guitars: a satin Explorer, an EBMM JP6, and a C7 Hellraiser.

I don't know, the amp just didn't seem to sound that different than my V3 Not different enough, anyway. It had a tighter low end, and that's one of the main things I dislike about the V3, but still. Fluid Drive mode was basically Intense mode on the V3 in a nutshell.

Also, I wasn't aware of how small a 1x12 combo actually sounds. I mean, I assume that the fact that I had it relatively quiet had something to do with it. But it sounded very small, with none of that "floor shaking" bass power. I mean, I guess I'm only used to a 2x12, but it's definitely the fucking largest 2x12 I've ever used. It's 70 lbs and about 4/5 the size of a 4x12. Also, possibly the wheels could have contributed to this lack of bass by way of less of the amp making contact with the ground.

I guess I'm on the look for an amp again

Probably a head too, even though that fucking 70 lb 2x12 is hard to carry

yeah seriously, most tube amps sound like garbage at low volumes, especially Mesas

That's a valid point, but quite honestly for my application, I'd want it to also sound good at a somewhat low volume. I mean, the master was on 3 or so. Not cranked by any means, but I would like an amp that doesn't turn to shit at that volume.

If you want to even consider using a Mesa at low volumes, you need an attenuator

Pretty much the only tube amps that sound good at low volumes are ENGLs, maybe some Peaveys, and low wattage boutique amps designed specifically for low volume use.
