![]() | Randall amps Yo mates, I have a fairly good deal for a Randall head and 4 12's at a local pawn shop in my area. This stack would be the closest to professional gear I would own so I almost feel like it'd still be worth it but I'm extremely picky about this kind of thing. I haven't tried it out yet so I dont know how exactly it sounds The exact head is a Randall "Warhead" I believe it's the 300w head. Like any equipment I'm interested in, I try to look it up with reviews up and down the web but I would like to hear from this site that most of you are established muscians. The one thing is that the Warhead doesn't to do cleans very well. I don't mind tinkering with EQ knobs. I already do that with my Boss-MT2 pedal to dial in a decent crunch tone. I know some folks think the metalzone pedals sound aweful. Also, to keep in mind, I don't really play out professionally yet though I'm slowly trying to work that direction. I'm so self-critical and my knowledge theory is pretty out the window. I am kinda tickled by the fact, far as local bands my area I think I'd be the only one with Randall amps. Many of my friends use either marshal or fender and occasionally Line-6. either way, what I'm asking if the Warhead is worth considering, although many of you are Engl heads. That's really out of my price-range right now especally since I am not a professional musician so I not going all the way yet .Cheers mates. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've been fond of Randalls for a long time, one of the few solid states I've liked, I think thats more to do with the fact of them being a company that were a solid state amp company originally, rather than a tube amp based company that threw out something to appease people. Rather than looking at the Warhead, have you tried the rest of their line at all? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The funny thing about the Warhead cleans.... Grady Champion (Dime's tech) had a really great interview in Guitar World recently. Even though the Warhead was supposely Dime's signature head, they only used the clean channel on the Warheads live. His live distortion tone was from his old-school Randall RG100 & Century 200 heads. ![]() |

![]() I've owned a couple of Warhead's (up until a few months ago) for almost 5 years. They served me well and I had little to no issues! The clean's are decent on them and have a bit of tweakability with the given EQ on them. The Gain side is great. They are a very mean sounding amp and can reach a fairly wide range of tone with the semi-parametric mid EQ and the 9 band Graph EQ. They can get loud if you want to crank them as 300W Solid state is plenty enough, and the nice thing about SS is that you can play the amp on a low volume, and it still sounds good. I found this amp is a bit of a tweaker to get great tones, so if you don't mind spending the time, it is a good amp to consider. ![]() | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had an RH250 head for about a year. It had some seriously heavy sounding gain and the cleans, while a little shrill sometimes, weren't that bad. Not sure about the build quality on other randall's, but mine was built like a tank. |

![]() | Right on, thanks alot mates. Of course, I am not going to use it for cleans too I have an 'old' Univox 11w single 12 hah, that doesn't sound too bad for cleans, but it's a practice amp. I definitely don't mind tweaking. I practically play with the dials on my MT2 every two weeks.I wouldn't mind trying the rest of the Randall line Stuh84 but I had to post this question cause the "warhead" is sitting in a local pawn shop where I live. I wanted to debate whether I should grab it while it is still there. I thought the T2 looked very interesting but I am not ready to spend 1400 bucks on just the head. After your replies, I'm definitely considering the amp now. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | hmmm, 600 sounds a bit pticey to me, you could probly get a randall head and cab new for close to that. but hey its a pawn shop, bargan with em. and the t2 is on of the best metal amps i have played, certainly the best randall imho ...Each guitarist has an evil fat 40 year old blueswankler trying to get out, If you give in to temptation you'll be sitting next to a fender playing john lee hooker while trying to keep your combover in place. -Desecrated |
