POD X3 Live problems

I wanted to do a little recording yesterday to see how my sounds work recorded but unfortunately I ran into another problem instead:

I installed all the software on my PC and updated the PODs drivers and everything (following the manual). What I was trying to do is use the PODs USB interface to record cause that seems like the perfect option for me.
I can set the POD as audio-device for recording and for playback (if I want to) in my recording software, but as soon as I try to actually use it with the recording software my PC imediately crashes and does a reboot. This happened with both Cool Edit Pro 2 and Cubase SX

anyone know whats wrong? please?

Well, not much of help but have you tried audacity? it's freeware

Are you running Windows? Vista or XP? Are you maybe on Linux? Which distribution? Maybe even Mac (i know you wrote PC, but PC is a tower for me...)?
