![]() ![]() | ADA MP-1 Owners: What mod do I get? Hi all, I've been trying to figure out which mod to get, but there's several out there. There's the ones from adadepot.com and there's the one from Voodoo Amps. The price of them really isn't my concern, but I'm wondering if I get one versus the other what am I missing out on from the others? I kinda get the feeling that most like the 3TM mod as it adds three more tubes to the circuit. I don't know what Voodoo Amps does exactly, but I know they go in and replace components and increase gain and what not. I thought I was sold on having Voodoo do their mod on my preamp, but I'm questioning myself as to if it's the right choice. I'd like to be able to get the vintage bell like chimes like an old Marshall Plexi or so on the clean channel, but I'd still like to get some great bone crunching distortion. Those of you that have the MP-1, what mods have you done and can you recommend a mod that would do what I'm wanting? Thanks to all that respond! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am only going to go on what I have seen on their site, but the 3TM retains the essential Marshall-esque quality of them, whereas the 3.666 MOD makes it very Recto-ish. It depends what you are looking for really. |

![]() | I've had several MP-1's. I say leave it stock and work on your EQ. They sound great as-is, and I highly doubt anyone needs more gain that thing puts out. Pair it with a good power amp and you're set. ![]() |

I don't really need a power amp. I'm only going to be using this to record with so it'll have plenty of power for what I'm wanting to do. Does the stock version have a bit of chimey-ness to it's tone? I'd like for my cleans to sound that way and I'd like to be able to go from a Satriani-like low gain blues tone to plenty of distortion. I'm not talking about infinite gain, death metal distortion. I can always boost it with one of my many pedals I got lying around. Just a nice hard distortion. I'll see what it sounds like when it comes in. It'll be here Monday. I just thought about getting it modded to make it "better". I knew that Voodoo modded lots of MP-1s back in the day for alot of the big name players like Gilbert, Vai, etc., so naturally that got my attention. It's $400, but if I can get the same thing for half and do it myself I'll go that route. But that's essentially what I'm after - a clean that's chimey, and distortion that'll go from a chimey blues overdrive sound to a good crunch. | |

![]() | Todd Langer modded some MP-1's for Paul Gilbert, but he stated that he always preferred the stock units and that's what he used. I don't think you'll have any problems with getting a chimey sort of sound out of it. The cleans sounds are reallty nice in it. And there's more gain that anyone would ever need already there. And why won't you need a power amp? I assume you're running direct or already have something you're running it into? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Darkside on this form has a 3TM ADA ask him about it. I played it, it's pretty cool and way better than a stock ADA MP1. Fook loads of gain. "and I sure as shit don't fucking roll! Shomer shabbos!" |

![]() | Bands like Slayer, Iced Earth, Testament, etc...don't use that much gain. The MP-1 in stock form has more gain than any of those bands use. Agree to disagree I suppose... ![]() |
