StefanWest will become famous soon enough
I am using an ENGL E530 through a Digitech 2101 tube preamp FX.
I also have a POD x3 as well.

I havent used the POD throught the 2101, but I assum that it sounds good. I'll try it out.

Before I got my ENGL for my tube dist, and my POD x3 for the other dist, I used two 2101's together. one for distortion and one for the 15 bnd eq.
...with the ability to use the 15 band eq, as well as the rest of the fx, it's truely a great fx unit with a very sharp gate.

I have 2 and am selling one.

Stefan

+1 for the Digitech 21xx units. I've gotten the best sounds from my 2101LTD but then I've spent years tweaking patches to get them were I want. I have a 2112 upgraded to 2120 and for usability I'd recommend it over the 2101 because of the vastly improved interface. This is also assuming that the tube preamp section is capable of making the same great sounds as the 2101 which I can't think why it shouldn't, but I haven't taken the time to tweak mine enough.

Just yesterday an employee at the store I teach at brought in his Axe FX unit and I was thoroughly impressed! It could definitely be used as a pre-amp as well as for direct recording like a Pod. The sounds I heard were fantastic, but of course you could probably buy 6 or 7 Digitech units and a foot controller for the same price.

UPDATE:
Well, I found a Digitech 2101 LE w/ the Artist upgrade (Vers. 3.0) & the Control One footboard on ebay. Turns out, it was my buddy who actually works for Digitech as a clinician. Digitech did the full upgrade at their factory & so it's tip top! He's selling the package to me for an absolute steal.

Needless to say, I know our adminishredder will be happy to here this.

That's awesome dude!
I'm sure you'll be really happy with it.
Which color is it?

Do you know if Digitech has any more Artist upgrade chips available?

Hcash is a jewel in the rough
Digitech's 21xx series are the shit! I'm still very happy with mine, even after the two years I've had it. Although I wil admit I want to do what SteffanWest did, except I want a go at the E520 as it matches my poweramp... Congrats!!!

So last night I played around....

yea so don't put an ENGL E530 through a POD x3.... too much is too much....

i'm better off running the ENGL though the 2101, and letting the POD x3 do it's thing on it's own. A/B...

I've been thinkin about either getting a Modded 5150II, Diezle H, or a VHT Pitbull combo.

After throwing the JJ ECC83S high gains in the ENGL and taking the ENGL tubes and replacing the 2101's, the sound is present and clear.

I'd like to play an Axe FX if they ever get here.

but yea.
don't overdo pre amps...
the ENGL is a great tube distortion, and running it though the tube/digital EQ, Gate, chorus FX ect... is ok.
but throwing 2101 overdive, dist, comp, with the ENGL is taking away and adding to much to the intended sound of the ENGL.

eventually I'll be getting a Decimator, and a couple Alesis DEQ830's, an eventide, and that's it, or until they can make a 5150II rackmount preamp.

but it doesn't end there.
the ISP Vector SL.

later, good luck with your 2101
