Help me choose speakers!

Since I have a 5150 II now (Still at my techs, he'll be able to start it this week) I want to save some money on a cab and keep the B52 cab I have now. 13ply baltic birch, and built like a TANK, so no sense in getting an entirely new cab.

So i fugured I'd get new speakers.
I was looking at Celestion G12k - 100, as well as G12T - 75's. The B52 cab has 'B52 custom' 120w speakers. These things have seemingly endless headroom and power handling. My tech reccomended the G12T 75's, he says they are pretty damn versitile in the sounds you can get out of them. I was also looking at V30's, but i'm kinda turned off at the 60w rating of them. For some reason I can't shake the feeling like they wouldn't be able to take a ton of gain, despite the fact that PLENTY of heavy bands use them. I don't know, it's an odd lingering fear. But it's probably because i'm a speaker n00b.

I want something with a good mix between classic mid growl, with some modern low end to go with my 7.

So between those three choices, what would you guys reccomend?

the k100s have so much bottom end they outclass BET
the T75s ARE probably a bit more versatile, but the 12k's take the cake in anything beyond crunch IMO. from heavy rythm to screaming hot leads theyre the way to goo 95% of the time if you ask me.

As for the V30's, they arent my thing. They just dont respond particularly well to alot of metal tones. Not BAD per set, but there are better options out there. id take the t75s every time over the v30s

Is your tech kidding? The G12T-75 isn't bad, but it is all upper mids and high end. The bass response is practically non-existent. I guess they're versatile if you want to play 80s metal through a Marshall.

V30s have a harsh upper mid spike that you just can't dial out, and the low end is rather flubby. It's definitely not what you are looking for.

I would recommend the G12K-100, or the Mesa Black Shadow C90. Both have plenty of low end punch and more balanced mids, and neither will ever break up. They just have too much power handling.

mesa c90s, g12k-100s, or cl80s. check out warehouse guitar speakers too. they make cl80 copies called the british leads and supposedly they sound pretty much just like the cl80s and are less than $50 a piece. and at 80 watts a speaker they would give you a pretty good amount of headroom. eminence makes some really good speakers too that have high power handling and are really decently priced, such as the legends(75 watts), swamp thangs(150 watts), texas heats(150 watts), etc....

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Even though my current speakers are 120w, when I crank it to gig volume the break up is disgusting, I lose a lot of amp character. But that's probably because they're not that great quality.

I tried looking for the C90s, but it's for some reason impossible to find new Mesa gear online.

Yeah, he said they do great cleans and can make overdrive sing.

...But then again, this guy only owns vintage Marshalls, Ampegs, Vox, and Orange amp heads running through Marshall 1960 cabs with G12T's.

...This guy is a serious gear whore. He has some of the best sounding vintage Marshalls i've ever heard. My favorite was a 60's Marshall Plexi Superbass... Holy SHIT did this fucking thing sing! He rebuilt it, but kept the rusted, rotted chassis.

So yeah... It's not surprising that he likes the G12T's as you described them.

That's because Mesa doesn't allow their stuff to be sole via an online store. Retailers are not allowed to sell outside of their area. However, you can buy the speakers through Mesa's online store for $109 a piece. Unless the price went up.

I wonder why Mesa does that?
I was trying to get prices on amps and couldn't find anything.

My favorites are Swamp Thangs.

Well, they're my favorite you can buy. The Eminence Legends in Vader cabs are a little better sounding but you can't buy those. C90's PWN too!

In a GOOD, LARGE cab G12T-75's sound good mixed with V30's in an X-pattern but smaller lesser quality cabs don't do them much justice. G12T-75's sound like utter p00p by themselves

150w rated! Damn, I guess those Swamp Thangs can take a beating eh? And they're pretty cheap too (About $90 when I looked) compared to the G12k - 100's (@ $109) and the C90's (@ $129)
