Ampeg question
Ive got a bead on picking up an Ampeg VH140c or an SS150 head, which Ive wanted for a gigging head for a while. Ive played the VH (older series, this is a newer one) but not the SS, the SS I cant try out. So anyone have an opinion on them either way?

The VH140c is well known for having some of the most awesome metal tones around, and i believe the SS150 has a similar rep, although less famous for it. Ive only got minor experience with a single older VH140 but it was definitely a badass amp.

The VH does have some righteous metal tones for a SS amp, no doubt. Few people seem to have had experience with both, and how they compare sound wise (I believe Edroz has).

see if you can track down a VH-150...same preamp as the 140C, but it's got a single 150w power amp instead of 2x70w power amps. with solid state amps, the more headroom the better.
i don't know how the SS compares to the VH though. |

I grew up playing a ss140c, great amp! I had it for 5 years and I wish I never got rid of it. Has a nice smooth distortion and can get pretty brutal, The real stereo chours is almost JC120 ish on the clean channel. Geat amp, I think I got it got like $350 at a pawn shop, but that was like 15 years ago...
