Hmmm... how much does the korg Pitchblack run for at street?

Most of my pedals are true bypass but they're gonna end up running with a GCX. The only other buffer I want is my Morley wah as I can't hear it at all Not to mention it has a level control to boost long cables. A buffer or two is ok but they can add up fast, I say get true bypass of ya can.

$90 if I'm not mistaken, but I don't think there are as many used ones floating around.

As for buffers... what do you mean 'they add up fast'? Their audible effects are minimal at best and unless you're using top-notch patch cables they might not be a bad thing at all... you can always throw a blanket over your amp later on, but it's hard to fix a loaded signal.

That's a decent price. I'll probably pick one up soon then.

I have four pedals now. I plan on buying quite a few over the summer. I think ten buffers at once would certenly be noticeable, I mean my one DOD pedal noticably colors my tone when off.

I mean, when u play the strings u can hear them barely unnoticeable, but if u're cranked they'll be kinda noticeable they do sound kinda funny that way.

Hmm, and this goes away when the tuner is out of the line? That's odd. Especially if you're muting while tuning and you have it bypassed when you're playing. Have you talked to BOSS?

If it's really true bypass it will not hurt your tone. Tone loss from bypassed pedals is all about capacitance. High end cable manufacturers boast about "low capacitance" because capacitance in cables cuts both highs and lows from your tone.

The Gear Page alone has made this big argument about whether true bypass is good or bad for your tone and I find it 100% gay. Remember, there are guys there that spend over $1000 on a new power cable for their amp even though the romex electrical cable in their house is the same as everybody else's. You can't boost electricity with a better cable at the end.

They say the buffers strengthen your signal but the average true bypass pedal is equivalent to 1-2 inches of cable where as the best of buffers out there add the equivalent of 15-20 feet of cable since your guitar signal still runs through the input cap. A .001uf cap = 15 feet of cable and 99% of pedals have a bigger cap than that in the input buffer.

My belief is that those who say they can hear the difference in the few inches of wire a true bypass pedal makes are full of shit.

That said a few buffers in your path can make a difference for the better. It works both ways. Something like a tuner should most certainly be true bypass IMO. That's why people spend money on tuner mutes for their boards.

I wouldn't say that true bypass is bad for the tone, so much as it's not as good as a good few buffers to keep the cable from killing things entirely. The Gear Page is pretty full of shit... seems like a rich-bitch HCAF.

Also, I'd like a bit more detail about 'adding 15-20 feet of cable' because the input cap is only a tiny little bit of the equation and good buffers are close enough to 'flat' by any real standards. Sources, numbers, anything like that?

Decipher is a jewel in the rough
I've owned the Boss TU-2 and it is a great unit. The Korg units both are nice. I'm getting a Pitchblack whenever it arrives. Looks good, solid build, big, bright LED screen and small. The DT-10 also looks good, but is a larger pedal (if space is a concern). Plus the Korg stuff is only +/- 1 cent vs. +/- 3 cents with the TU-2. A little more accuracy can't hurt.

hm, lemme know how that goes man.. i think if i had a tuner on the floor i'd actually use it (my korg CA-30 is fine.. but since i usually play by myself, i just tune the guitar to the guitar. its stable as fuck. I think im still in Eb )

3 cheers for free gear!
