In search for a combo...

I think that instead of another head and cab, I want something more practical and portable. So I'm thinking about either a 1x12 or 2x12 combo. I want something versatile. Something that can do nice cleans, blues, up to metal. Preferably somewhat modern metal tone. Reverb would be sick but it's not a must.

The things I've looked at:

Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace:

-always been impressed with this amp when I play it
-appears to be versatile
-might not be so modern voiced for metal

JSX Combo:
-played a few times, nice tone
-not so sure about versatility despite 3 channels
-has reverb, also noise gate!

Now clearly I will have to try these amps out again, but I want more suggestions. Recommend me some sick combos, dude. Preferably under $2000 new. Also, if you want to reccomend one of the amps I posted, you can say something along the lines of, "Get [ insert amp here] becase [insert blanket statement here]"

only kidding

Loserchief is a jewel in the rough
An Engl Sovereign will outdo both amps you've mentioned. It really can do everything and sound great doing it. You can go for either 1x12 or 2x12, but both versions are above 2k so if you wanted one you'd either have to raise your budget or hope for a used on to come up(not very likely in the US)

and LoG has a similar use of "low gain" for tight metal rhythm, a la the one setting PTH uses for half their lines lol. the setting i like .

Dan, the only way to know if the ENGL is better then the mesa's and the Orange listed is to A/B them. wait, can't cody hit up nick's store?

if your looking for something cheap:
Get a hughes and kettner 60dfx, because it has sweet cleans and can also handle metal pretty well.

...Each guitarist has an evil fat 40 year old blueswankler trying to get out, If you give in to temptation you'll be sitting next to a fender playing john lee hooker while trying to keep your combover in place.

$2k is cheap?

Justin, Nick's store isn't open yet

LoG uses Mark IV's right? I hate their tone. But I'd rather go new anyways. How mush is a Mark IV new roughly?

I'd also go for a rectoverb. the Mark III might also be a damn good bet, and i think they can be had for around $1K used.

new, i dunno what the mark IV goes for - call a mesa dealer?
