Overdrive question...

So, I'm running a Digitech 2112 into a Engl 920/50 poweramp and I want to get a OD pedal to improve my sound some. But with the 2112 it runs through solid state stuff before getting to the tubes. So putting it before that wouldn't do any good. But couldn't I just put it in between the 2112 and the poweramp (Which has preamp tubes in it) and get a similar and effective outcome? Wouldn't that be equivalant to running a bunch of pedals in a chain with a OD last to boost that signal into the amp??? Thanks.

A good OD in front of a solid state amp is not a bad thing at all. Many people boost Randalls, Ampegs, etc... (by etc... I mean the handful of good solid state amps on the market). I have a lot of happy customers who are running their pedals through modeling gear that involve no tubes at all.

Well, which would benefit more??? The overdrive on the Engl, or the 2112...

You'll want it in front of the 2112. I've never heard of good results having an OD between the preamp and power amp. Those aren't really preamp tubes in there, they're phase inverters.

Ohhh... I didn't know they were phase inverters. I thought it was a whole preamp circuit...
