![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The title says it all... I currently have a 5150 (biased) and I found that I need an amp with a real clean channel on it. I play mainly metal, but I'd want an amp as versatile as possible on the 800-1200 price range. I can't buy anything from the states as usual, because the different voltage and the insanely expensive shipping rates, so I have to stick with Thomann this time ![]() So far I've been looking into this ones, but I'm open to any suggestion: -Engl Fireball -Engl Blackmore Signature -Laney VH100 I tried a Powerball and found It too clinical sounding compared to a 5150 or a Recto (which I can't afford right now), but I've heard the Fireball and especially the Blackmore sound less processed. Since all of them seem tho sound ace for rythms, I want something that sounds cool for leads too. The cleans on both engls will be the same, I suppose. Dunno about the Laney's. Any advice is welcome! ![]() |

![]() | I've spent a good amount of time with a Fireball (other guitarist in a couple of bands has one) and I had a Laney GH50L for a good while (not identical sounding to the VH100r but not far off so I'm told) and I would say you'll get a better rhythm tone from the Fireball, but the Laney would be better leads, plus the VH100r is mega versatile by the looks of it. Are you planning on keeping the 5150? If so I would go with ibznorange on keeping that for leads and using a Fireball for rhythm and cleans. I've not had any experience with the Blackmore so I can't really comment there, but I have heard good things about them. Ideally it'd be best to have a go with them, but I know it can be a bastard finding specific amps that aren't mesas or Marshalls about in most shops. |

Agreed. One other thing to note about the laney is it's not ULTRA-MEGA-MODERN HI-GAIN like an ENGL will be, but I've not played a Laney whose leads didn't make me want to have sex with a sound. | |
