![]() ![]() ![]() | Is this the solution to the 5150's bad clean channel? Maybe so... It's the very first box. I had this idea a while back but kind of forgot about it. I think that it would work out pretty good, being that you are bypassing the 5150's preamp. Unless the 5150s have a really dirty sounding poweramp section also. Anyways, hope this might work out for any of you that NEED a better clean out of your amp. Signature Removed - Image exceeds 300 px by 100 px Last edited by biggness; 04-11-2008 at 08:50 AM. Bias modding it gives you more headroom on the clean, but it's still not great as it was never meant to be a dedicated clean channel. I'd say a routing box like that, that would switch in a pod or nice clean preamp into the power amp and bypass the pre is probably the best bet (or just switch to a POD clean direct to PA) |

If that wasn't what you were asking, then pardon me. I have no experience with the setup, but I know that Phil Demmel (machinehead) does. He runs a 5150 with a Rocktron Prophesy in this manner.

![]() ![]() | That should work, you can achieve the same thing with any MIDI loop switcher like an Axess GRX-4 for instance. As long as the loop is decent on the amp... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Of course, you could just use the 4 cable method with a Boss GT6/8 or 10. Basically, it puts the preamp of your amp in the fx loop of the Boss unit, but allows you to use it in the signal chain at any point you desire. For instance, you can set up a clean channel using the in built modelling of the Boss, have a rhythm patch using just the tone of your amp and have a lead patch using the tone of your amp plus any fx from the Boss unit you wish. Of course, it's just the tip of the iceberg of it's capabilities, but it seems to make more sense than having an A/B box with a POD as it gives you more options and less clutter. And yes, after borrowing 7DT's 5150 it is a very tempting idea for me. |

![]() ![]() | I'll probably get a loop box for my combo and use the "clean" channel on the amp as my solo channel, you could also have this set up so that your boost is after the box so your boost will only be before the preamp so you won't have to turn your boost off when you switch to clean. One less button to push is great! my girlfriend says i'm totally METAL! ![]() balls. ![]() |

![]() It's a very common thing into the 5150 users here in Spain (except me, because I'm lazy and broke ).
