![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Dropped some KT-77's in my Rectoverb So far I'm liking them. I've been running my Rectoverb with JJEL34's and I have been really pretty happy with the type of tone I've been able to get with them . the KT-77's are a little more open sounding and smoother than the El34's (not by much but a bit) with a bit more bottom to them. I had to raise my mids a bit lower the treble one notch, and cut the bass a tad but once I did WOW ![]() I love these tubes in my JSX and I think I'm going to love them in the Recto. People often describe these tubes as a hybrid sounding tube between an El34 and a 6L6, and I think that's pretty accurate. One thing I did notice immediately is my clean channel sounded a bit fuller and smoother with these in there than with the El34's. I couldn't crank very loud for that long tonight and I do want to burn them in a little bit before I make a real judgement on these , but I think they may work as well in the recto as they do in the JSX. I know some people complain that the EL34's tone degrade as you crank them up in these amps that take both El34's and 6L6's but I've cranked my JSx up quite a bit a bunch of times and the KT-77's actually sound better with some volume to them. the Recto likes to be opened up and I can't really crank until Saturday, so I'll revisit this then (hopefully I 'll have a clip or two(will be 6 string though my Carvin is having "some bridge work done" at the moment ) Can I be the devil on your shoulder? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ya that's all they had in stock, I was hoping I could grab a black one but no luck. I'm using a different tech this time, The "Underground Charvel" tech. he did a great set up on my old M-207 and he just recently did a refret on my friends San Dimas Charvel strat head (early number16##) and it came out great, so I'm giving him a go around this time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So I got the chance to really crank the Rectovrb all weekend and I've got to say, the KT-77's are staying in. the amp sounds smoother, and bigger with these in there than the EL34's, the lower mids jump out at you a little more and there is more bottom end to the tone, but it's still tighter than with the 6L6's. the highs ae also a little sharper, (less mud). I even got a great "fusiony" type of tone out of the "Raw" mode this weekend, which I didn't think would be possible because the amp is so thick sounding. I also bought another MXR 10 band EQ and put it in the loop and I 've really got this amp dialed in great now. another thing I've noticed is that the cleans are much fuller and richer sounding than with the EL34's , which makes sense because I think the cleans sound best with the 6l6's and these are putting out tone somewhere in between EL34's and 6L6's. These KT-77's are a great option if you want to get a "different" tone out of your amp but keep the basic "character" intact ![]() |
