Oh man, that sucks balls! I feel for you, I really do...

Never had a single issue with any Engl myself though, so no similar experiences I'm afraid.

When I got it, the first preamp tube went microphonic after a couple hours of playing. Well, it thought it was not a big deal since even new tubes can do that, so I put in a new one, it did the same thing.

I was stupid enough to try three times... It is always the first preamp tube that goes microphonic, and it seems like activating the high gain mode usually is what causes it, or maybe it is just a lot more audible that way...

No, I haven't used extreme gain/eq settings, I haven't exposed it to extreme feedback etc. so there is nothing I have done to that could cause this.

This is a total bummer, since this amp really is starting to be my all time favourite amp. I LOVE the tone and the ease of use. I had just found my ideal settings, the sound that I have been hearing in my head all this time.

And when sending something for repair usually takes weeks or even months, since the store where I bought it from sends it to the Finnish ENGL importer and if they don't know how to fix it, they'll send it to Germany. So it will be gone for a long time. It's good that Finland is not that far away from Germany...

So sorry DiezelMonster, can't make new clips now...

And well, I still have my Triple Rectifier so things are not that bad

Anybody else have similar experiences with ENGL gear?
Before sending it out try sending an Email to service@engl-ampdesign.com explaining your problem. Horst Langer who designs all of the Engl amps might have some suggestions for you before having to go thru all of the trouble in sending it out.

Good Luck,
Derek

Oh damn, I just took the amp to the shop... bugger! Thanks for the advice anyway!

I still do consider ENGL amps to be built like rocks, since this really is the first one I have ever heard being "broken". I hope it's something that can be fixed by the ENGL importer, so they don't need to send it to Germany.

I can't wait to get it back! It really has "the tone" I have heard in my head, so my search for tone is over. ( for now )

I was actually hoping nobody had any bad experiences That really tells ENGL is keeping the quality up.

hmmm... this sounds similar to the problem that occured in Matt's (HighGain510) Invader 150, just uncontrollable feedback from the amp, even with a noise gate.

he ended up just returning it, and getting a different amp. not all that uncommon for Matt .

Damn! That makes me wonder... could there be a flaw in the design making the amp vulnerable to these kinds of things. Well, this is only speculation and I really hope not.
