Weird hissing sound coming from amp.

My Laney GH100l is making a really strange hissing sound when both the gain and drive channels go at the same time. I have the gain at full and the amp starts making a hissing sound when the drive is anywhere above 5 1/2. Anywhere above 5 1/2 and it starts hissing really bad. I have no clue what it is and I feel like I'm damaging it when I do that. Anyone know what this is?

Turn the gain down...there's no reason why it should be on full

It sounds very weak without it. I've tried so many different combinations and it's tone just goes straight out the door without it at full. Do you think it could be another problem than just the drive?

you're getting feedback, because you're diming your gain.

put it to 5. boost the amp.

problem solved. my gain is on less then 2 on the ultra channel of my jsx.

No, that is definetly because you're diming the gain.

But it's definately not feedback either. It's a whining, hissing sound. I've heard all sorts of feedback. This sound is coming from the amp head itself, not the cab.

And even if I turn the gain to 4, which makes it sound weak, if I boost the drive above 5, it starts hissing again. It's definately not because I'm diming anything.

Hmm...how old are your tubes??

Replaced all of them. Only about 3 months old.

microphonic tube somewhere then. got any spares handy? all you need is 1 12AX7 to test out each preamp tube, and im guessing an extra EL34 for the power section.

im thinking it's the pre though.
