![]() | I don't. Really the only thing I know how to work on are guitars. Never messed with amps. The previous owner tried to fuck with everything somehow. The preamp tube covers were dent with pliers and all sorts of stuff. The amp eventually just died on me. So I took it to have it repaired and he biased and replaced all the tubes. No more scratchy pots or anything. But this has recently popped up. And I never abuse the amp either. The loudest I ever get to get it is the volume on 2. What would I need to do for that? Ever since I got this amp back from the guy I was a little iffy about it. The guy that repaired it got in all sorts of trouble with other people and ended up moving to get away from everyone. No one around here has heard from him again. Last edited by OrsusMetal; 04-05-2008 at 12:44 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

![]() | Yeah, we've messed with cables and those aren't the issue. I was thinking it may have been the cab at first, because I don't know too much about the cab. A CGW 4x12? I have no clue what it is. But, then I realized that the sound was coming from the amp, and that it didn't matter how loud I had the amp, the hissing was always the same volume. And I didn't use to have this problem. I could have both the drive and gain cranked full (even though it didn't sound great) and it didn't do this. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if you knew the tech wasnt a good one, why did you take your amp to him ![]() swapping tubes is easy. you pull the old ones out, you line up the pins of the new ones with the slot, and you push them in. does your preamp section have little metal covers for the tubes? those are RF covers to keep out radio frequencies i believe so that you dont pick up radio stations lol Microphonic tubes do happen. Try taking it to a reputable tech if you want it completely checked out. 3 cheers for free gear! "Do you like burned toast with your JAM? cuz we're on FIRE!" ![]() |

![]() | Well, when I was having it repaired, I had two choices for techs. One was a guy I didn't know, the other (the guy I chose) was a guy who built custom amps for the music store I worked at. Really nice, quality, class a tube stuff. He had a great reputation. My co-workers recommended him as well. Right after I gave it to him for him to work on. He pulled a vanishing act and didn't show up for about a month and a half (I was PISSED). He was behind on all our stores orders, brought my amp to the store and then disappeared. Our store stopped doing business with him after that. That's why I was iffy on everything. He seemed like such a great choice beforehand. The preamp section did have little metal covers over the preamp tubes. But that's what the previous owner took pliers to and bent them the fuck up. They currently don't have anything covering them. I'd like to take it to a new tech, but don't know of anyone now. |

![]() | Haha, I never usually have to. This issue is driving me ![]() I'm hoping that I can take this to someone who actually knows what they're doing and that it's not going to be expensive out the ass. Thanks for all your help guys. Any suggestions of what to look for in a good amp tech? I don't want to spend a fortune having it fixed...as I want allllll sorts of other stuff too. |
