A normal delay pedal can make good reverb effect?

Hi there!

So, sooner or later I would like to buy some effect pedals. One of them would be a reverb pedal. I like how does the Electro-Harmonix's Holy Grail pedal sounds, but I read many bad reviews about it's bad reliability, so I think I would go for their Holy Stain pedal, I didn't read any bad about it's reliability and it's cheaper too. I really like how is it sounds.

Here is it:

But my question is that a normal delay pedal, for example the Boss DD3 can make such a nice ambient effect with the delaytime on minimum and the feedback on max (so I would buy only a delay), or it won't sound so nice then the Holy Stain or other reverb pedals?

Thanks in advance!

that´s definitely a reverb pedal. delay pedals don´t give you that sound, the closest you can get is a 50´s "slapback" sound. if you want reverb, get a reverb pedal. you could alternatively get a pedal that does both, so you´d have your bases covered.

i know a guy that has various boutique pedals, electro harmonix pedals, etc, and he loves the line 6 verbzilla. i´m not taking his word as gospel, but i´ve tried it myself, and it´s really really nice :P

the verbzilla is very flexible, and it has both stereo in and out if you want that as well.

FWIW, I prefer a light ambient delay with a bit of feedback to true reverb as a way to add ambience - you may find you're happier with a delay than a verb.

Theoretically, a delay can reproduce reverb effects, since reverb is a time based effect created by delaying and replaying repeats of a signal. Realistically, very few affordable (and even top-of-the-line) delay units have the sort of processing power you'd need to do a true smooth reverb, so it's not worth the effort.

Nightcrawler has a spectacular aura about
I've owned the EH holy grail for almost 2 years and have used it live quite a few times, no troubles yet. Try out EH Memory Man Delay/Chorus pedal, it just might do the trick for you though, very lush!

The holy grail has a flerb effect, that (to my ear) sounds like a phaser on the reverb only. REALLY cool. Plus the mix effect will allow you to go full wet (meaning you only hear the reverb, not initial tone), which is awesome for a light overdrive with a volume pedal swell. I wish I hadn't of sold mine.
