![]() | tube poweramps are MOSTLY used if clipping is needed in the last signal stage, cause it sounds good. With SS amps, we don't really want for our power stage to clip. So all the gain produced is coming from the preamp, and the poweramp should have enough headroom to cover that up and it sounds clearer, colder but clearer. If for some reason ss poweramp goes to clip, it sounds harsh and unpleasant. I'm just speaking from my personal experience. ok, maybe I have different view on that, sorry. But, what you say about tube power stages is missing the mark. Tube power sections will add some natural compression into the sound (a good thing) and a 100w tube poweramp literally is beyond loud, it really is! So this distortion thing on power tubes really is only possible if you like your ears bleeding... Basically, when a tube power stage goes into overdrive it's actually pleasant, but when run normally (out of saturation) it is just like any other power amp, linear and loud ![]() | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ...depends what the heads are...Invader, Roadster and Uberschall? Worth a try IMO, I mean, some people only use SS stuff and sound awesome, Romeo was using a Vetta II and getting sounds guys with the aforementioned heads would dream of...Megadave, Studioforce and Mr Cooley all use the Prophecy (albeit with tube poweramps)...might as well give it a try! Selling my Moser V (£500), ESP LTD H307 (£550) and Iron Maiden Strat(£900), check out the Guitars For Sale forum ![]() |
