Okay.

kmanick's tips were good, so here's some more in depth stuff to get an amazing sound out of a Recto.

Tubes:
Replace those stock rectifier tubes with GZ34s, they're much tighter than the stock 5U4GB(or whatever they're called) tubes and they'll be smoother sounding than the silicon diodes. The diodes are solid state, and the tube rec is....tube!

Put a Tung Sol 12AX7 reissue in V1, this is a very common change that recto users have done, makes things sound better.

Power tubes...6L6s are fine, but KT88s will make it even more brutal IMO

I recommend JJ brand tubes.

A boost on a rectifier is a must, they're much too loose on their own. Put a Tubescreamer in front Put the drive to zero the level at 10 and adjust the tone to taste.

Be very conservative with the bass as has been stated. And turn that presence up! As I understand it has something to do with power amp saturation (which is something you want!)

Turn the effects loop on, and turn that master volume up, use the channel volume to control loudness, basically you want the power tubes to be running hot.

Eurotubes is a good resource for tube knowledge.

I can't stress enough how important it is to use a boost in front of the amp. It really improves the mid-range tone, more attack while smoothing things out and improves the response and overall tone of the amp. I'd recommend using the tube rectifier setting once you use a boost, as it warms it up and makes it sound more 3 dimensional. The solid state rectifier setting does sound tighter, but also not as organic and rich. So, the tube rectifier w/ a boost is the best of both worlds

it's true, the cheapo earplugs you buy in bulk anywhere are usually a total pain because the frequency blocking is nowhere near flat, so everything's gonna sound muffled. If you can just set up your sound how you like and live with wearing those, definitely do. If that bothers you too much, you may want to invest in molded earplugs. they're expensive but if you're careful with em you can have them forever and they'll have flat response and fit perfectly to your ears.

and yeah. try turning up the mids and NOT try to hear a difference. Sometimes you psychologically anticipate how you THINK it's going to sound and you don't really just hear how it sounds with the tweaking. A few months ago i discovered that my rig sounds best with the bass at 0. I was always skeptical about it, but it really just sounds great that way and i had to get used to the idea of having a knob at 0 or w/e. Don't be afraid to experiment

Word.

You have a great amp, and a terrific cab, you should be able to get a great tone out of it.

so presence should be past 9 oclock?
will use the TS!!! i always have, but lately ive just been getting a ton of feedback because the tone is up all the way (conclusion from my other thread)

Yes those are the ones I tried them and was very impressed, noodles here tried them too after reading my review and digs them as well

Try the presence at 12o'clock, and increase or decrease from that, I think mine is at 1o'clock

And yes, I'll be a tool. You want TUBE!!!

Power Tube Distortion = Good
KT88/KT66 Integrated Quad Test / Weaveworld
Tube Rectifier V. Solid State Rectifier

When I first joined I had a lot of questions about Dual Rec tone.

I can't find my original thread which has a LOT of good info.

In answer to this, in most cases yes it would be, but it turned out the amp which didn't sound ice picky, actually literally sounded like it was behind a wall. You get used to the sound when its the only amp you are playing on, but when I compared it to my Engl, it was night and day.

Turned out the amp had a problem with its power section, but I didn't get to find out until I compared the two amps......outside of warranty

Thats the problem with buying amps while at Uni and theres problems, or at least thats what happened to me
