What order should my effects be in? feedback!!!:[
so i have a mesa roadster.. but when im running the TS 808.. im getting mad FIZZ when im not playing.. and when i do play, when i stop i get about a 3 second singing of feedback..
could this be because my pedals are in the wrong order? i have -in order- an mxr smart gate, line 6 dl4, line 6 space chorus, ibanez ts808, dunlop crybaby classic, and an ernie ball jr volume pedal. should the gate be last? or through the loop? [ive heard the dl4 doesnt work well through the loop] i do have all gold plated cables, i am standing a good 15 feet away.. and i have a power conditioner. the only speakers or monitors that could interfere is our PA and speakers. which are facing the opposite way or maybe i should invest in trading the smart gate for the decimator? although the smart gate is pretty good, when the ts808 is off. |

Switch the smart gate for the decimator and put it last.

7StringofAblicK-This is my footswitch. it changes channels on my amp - just like on a television, but I only have four channels.

First, all time based effects generally go in the loop - move your DL4 and your chorus. This way, you'll be delaying and chorusing your distorted signal, and not distorting your delayed and chorused on. I mean, some times that's cool, but that's not generally how it's done.
I'd also put the wah before the distortion - part of the fun of a wah is how it interacts with distortion. What are your settings on the TS? And the amp? To me it sounds like you're adding a ton of gain from the pedal to an already distorted setting, causing it to fuzz up and feedback like crazy...

have presence on 9 oclock, mids on 9 oclock, treble at around 1.5 oclock, bass at 12 oclock, and my gain is at about 2.5 oclock. the TS has the gain all the way down, tone all the way up, and level was at 3 oclock until it was feedbacking, i turned it down to 12 oclock.
would adding the gate to the end of the chain make a difference? ive heard the dl4 through the loop usually doesnt work out. ill put the chorus through the loop. i really dont feel like spending money on a new noise gate. but i will if it would make a worlds difference. the mxr does fine when the ts is off. but i love the tone when it is on. |

I would also put the volume pedal first, then wah, then distortion, and time-based effects in the loop as Drew suggested. Dunno about the noise gate, as i've never used a standalone one.
Having the tone all the way up on the TS is probably adding a significant amount of the hiss in your chain. Even if it's only making a tiny bit of hiss on its own, the amp will be multiplying that considerably in high-gain situations. Back it off to a neutral position and use your amp's tone controls instead. |

i do get a ton of hiss on the amp when im not playing, but im sure thats natural.
do you guys ever recommend using the noise gate in the loop? and wah before distortion, you mean add the wah before the TS? |

I'm just going to list what i would do if i had that pedal chain.
EB volume pedal -> Crybaby -> ts808 -> mxr smart gate -> Mesa roadster (Effects loop) FX send -> line 6 space chorus -> line 6 dl4 -> FX return The only info on why? I can give is that. Out of all the times i've tried hooking up my own pedals and what not. This always (for me) gives the best results. Hope this helps ![]() Edit: I'd also suggest my "go to" setting on my ts808 are Drive: 0 or 9 o'clock (depends on what guitar i use) Tone: 10 o'clock Level: 12 o'clock |
