Well, as Zimbloth hasn't piped up, I'd like to throw the VHT Pitbull Ultra Lead into the ring. Hook it up with an RJM Amp Gizmo, and seriously, this thing just rocks, I just keep appreciating it more and more. Plugged it in through g12k-85 loaded cab yesterday and was just grinning from ear to ear.
Very tight amp, amazingly sweet cleans, and with the EQ stupidly versataille. But, a lot of people love the invader as well, although if you want the more necrophagist tone, it seems to be about the SE (Which do pop up for reasonablish prices second hand from time to time) But yeah, if you can check out a VHT go for it, be warned, it's odd to start with as the gain is so dry, but it's articulate, and will more than reward good playing (it'll also punish you when you suck). The other nice thing is that it sits extremely well in a band mix, not too cutting, not too dominant, just extremely present and there without steamrollering everything else. |

Funny stuff.
I think either 5150 II or ENGL Fireball fits the bill, for the best price. I have to say it again and again even though I get stoned for it every time, but do not get a VHT if you want to sound like Necrophagist!!! No matter what they tell you. VIVA REVOLUCION! I got a VHT cab to go with the Pittbull over the weekend. It's nice. But still - I do not recommend the amp for death metal. To me it's all about lead tone - it's rhythm tone is not the best ever (still good though). Last edited by blackrobedone; 03-31-2008 at 09:52 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Thats the think tho i dont wanna sound like necrophagist but i want an amp that can if i want it too!
i like the big thick heavey gain with plently of mids and all that but i want my own sound from it. its close to the necro-tone but its not the same any of the 5150s or 6505s wont really do it for me i dont think cus i use lots of clean tones and they wont be able to handle the kind of clean i demand im stupidly picky about gear ![]() |

looks like the ENGL SE or Invader from what people throw about, seeing as you're looking for the tightness of an ENGL with tonal variation I'd guess? If you find an SE, try it out, as it's definately not a one trick pony amp, and should allow you to do necrophagist if you want, but won't limit you to it, plus be versataille enough to last you for, well, ages.
