![]() ![]() ![]() | ENGL Shootdown: Where YOU help me pick my next amp! So...this is continuation of a past thread. I'm selling my 6505+ because I need a clean channel, I can't crank it enough at my apartment because my neighbors are sons of bitches, and I'm not playing in a band right now. Anyway, I'm looking for versatility. I want something that I could play in a cover band, but I could also use in a metal-band situation. I'm mainly looking at these three: -Screamer 50: It's 50w, which is convenient for me because of the volume issues. It's the cheapest of the bunch, and still I've seen a lot of youtube vid's where them amp shines on everything...EXCEPT there's not a lot of videos demoing the amps high gain capability. -Fireball: 60w, which are also good for my apartment situation. High gain sounds fabulous, but I don't see much versatility on this one. -Blackmore: The most expensive of these three. 100w, which I'm kinda thinking is too much for my apartment. I also wouldn't be able to buy a cab for sometime, but all the videos I've seen of this amp are just incredible. It looks pretty awesome also. So...Which one would YOU choose if you were in my shoes? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you could always kill your neighbours and get yourself an invader... is there any way where you can rent a practice space or something ? over here bands rent out garages and soundproof em for practice.. The Struggle to free Myself from Restraints, becomes my very shackles... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From my experience, with an all tube amp the volume difference between 50 and 100 watts isn't going to make much of a difference. I went from a 50 watt head to a 120 watt head, and both get really loud really fast. That said, ENGLs are supposedly great at any volume levels, so I'd just look for clips if you can't play 'em locally and pick whichever sounds most ideal too you regardless of the wattage. There's a hole in the world like a great black pit And it's filled with people who are filled with shit And the vermin of the world inhabit it But not for long ... |

That said, get the Blackmore Expensive doesn't always mean better but I've played those and they're AWESOME! |

![]() | No, I can vouche. It's not a clean channel, its a rhythm channel. with the gain down and the crunch off it sounds really dull and brittle, no matter what guitar or EQ you have. Chorus helps a little, but can only do so much. It sounds amazing for that mid gain sound, or even a bluesy crunch though. Dime the gain and throw the crunch switch on and its a great classic rock lead or stoner rock rhythm. Last edited by sepherus; 03-30-2008 at 09:33 AM. Reason: I cannot type. |

Practice space isn't an option because right now I'm not playing in any bands or anything, so I just don't see the need to rent something that I'm gonna use alone. I do want to play in a band in a future, but I just want a good amp that will be able to handle anything. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | psst - if you get it into that "light overdrive" area then turn down your giutar's volume, you may be suprised. im not a huge fan of the clean channel on the jsx, but w/ the TS on and my volume rolled down, its where i'd like it to be. just a thought. i know the 6505's dont have Great cleans, but they are useable. puerto rico eh? hm.. i wonder how hard it'd be to get a traynor YCS100H head down there - 30W at 4 ohms i believe? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | JSX's are a very good amp. I used to own one before my 6505+, and the cleans are WAY better than the 6505+. Here I can get pretty much anything via mail-order, but stores just dont carry that much stuff. We get ESP, Mesa, Ibanez, Line 6, etc etc...But the more "boutique" stuff like Orange, ENGL, Splawn, etc...well, we don't. I have my heart pretty set on an ENGL because I know not too many people here will have one, and after watching/hearing clips, I really like the tone it has to offer. |
