Celestion G12K-100?
I was looking at these, at about $110 a piece, I could easily re-laod my guitar cab with something nice.
Is this a good speaker? Is there anything anyone would suggest?

I use an older version of that speaker, the G12K-85. I love them - they have a little more top end than a Mesa C90, but the mid isn't obnoxious like a V30, and the bass response is better (tighter and richer, if that makes any sense) than the 75s.
The 100s are reported to be similar, but I've only heard them in the total crap Marshall Mode 4 cab... |

Sounds like the sound i'm going for. Thanks Mike
![]() I'd like to know who exactly made the speakers for B52's cabs. The website just says "custom-built, 120W 12" speakers" which doesn't say much. But the power handling of these things are pretty nice, i'm just trying to refine my tone now that i got a 5150 II. The 13 ply birch cab is pretty nice too ![]() |

The g12-100's are great speakers, my bandmate recently bought 4 of them from Avatar Speakers for a REALLY good price! Check out dave@avatarspeakers auctions on Ebay, you can get them for much less than $110 a piece!
We put them in his Ibanez Toneblaster cab, and it was a drastic improvement. They are the perfect match for his Ibanez Thermion head also, which is very picky about speakers. The speakers themselves sound alot like the Marshall g12-75's, but have a bigger, tighter bass response. Highly recommended! |

this is what orange put in their top end cabs (in power handling and price terms), they have the regular set with the vintage 30's, then they also do 412's with these, HP8's for High Power 8. they sell new here for £699 (after a quick google), in comparison to £524.99 for the vintage 30 loaded cabs in the same store.

The 412 hp from orange is designed with these speakers for 2 reasons
A) More power handling, the thunderverb (for which that cab was created) runs at 200w, so if it peaks out, it could potentially run over 240w (4x60w) fairly easily if you had it cranked. These are rated at 100w a pop. blowing your speakers with too much voltage, aint gonna happen. Also, the extra wattage just adds extra headroom in the speakers B) They have a very large, yet very tight low end. The thunderverb is designed to be both a guitar and a bass amplifier, so they need something that works for both. This speaker does just that. It has a pretty hefty low end, lots and lots of lows, but it retains the clarity you need for running a bass signal through them. These are like the perfect speakers for high gain ERG applications IMO, particularly if you play any sort of rap/numetal. You can downtune your axe to fuck and back, slather it with enough gain to kill a priest, and if the signal coming out of your amp is still defined, it will come out of the speakers well defined. basically, clarity isnt going to bottleneck at the speakers with these They sound damn good run with a strat into a plexi too, i might add. All around, these are my favourite speakers, and when i get my avatar made, its getting these in it
