![]() | Amp choice? yeah, i'm trying to decide on a good tube amp for a good, beefy metal tone with a tight and heavy low end that doesnt get muddy and that can double as a good soloing head, thats within the price range of 1600$ or less i was going to get a dual recto, but ive heard some bad things about them on several different websites, and am rethinking my decision also, could you tell me a good cab for 500-1000$ that would go with the head nicely? thanks for any help this isnt for recording, just loud playing and gigging, but i do want a solid quality tone some of the bands i want to emulate are: bullet for my valentine all that remains trivium kill switch engaged someone suggested getting a 6505 with a bogner cab, which i was thinking a 6505 would be a good choice anyway, and maybe with a mesa cab |

well, i'm pretty sure those are out of my price range for a head and to the one who said a dual recto, why not? well, i've heard that the low end on them cause it to get muddy pretty quickly, and that they are a pain in the @$$ to record, and that you have to tweak alot with the settings to get a decent sound from them

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Are you looking for something new or used? How versatile do you need it to be? Some good amps that I could recommend in your price range (new) would be the VHT Deliverance, Peavey 5150/6505, and Marshall DSL100. All 3 of those amps sound awesome if setup right and matched with a good cab. I'm around those amps all the time. My bandmate plays a DSL100 and a friend of mine plays the Deliverance with his band. The 5150 I used to own, and is pretty much the standard for entry level tube amps that happen to sound kickass (albeit one-trick ponies). If you're looking for used amps, that's a whole other story. You could swing a nice VHT, Framus, Mesa, etc for your price range. If you do go the Mesa route I'd recommend an older model over one of the new ones. For some reason I just get the sense you wouldn't really vibe well a Mesas though. I'd recommend the Peavey or a VHT personally. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | just a note: it usually takes some serious fine-tuning to get any amp just where you want it, eh? took me a very long time with the JSX, going through a few different sounds, before i got everything i wanted out of it. |

Yes, it is a pretty unique amp tonally, but it is one of the easiest amp to track! Just don't use the 10,0,10 settings and go easy on the presence Often people have a hard time making the Recto sound good because of the fact that they overdo the settings in a way.Just throw a Tubescreamer etc. in front of the Recto, and there is no problem with a loose low end. Massive low end, yes, loose, no if you tweak it Killswitch uses Recto's and so does Trivium.(I think they use Dual Rectifier Roadsters) There are a lot of great sounding metal albums tracked with Dual Recto's, I mean A LOT! There are a lot of people disliking Recto's without ever playing one themselves, and going on how much they suck at forums, or they have tried one at the local store with low volume and bad settings. And really hitting the strings makes a difference too. A Recto - Tubescreamer - a good cab - SM57= awesome tone!
