Main Seven: DC 727 Rig: Dragon->Orange 4x12 Thanked: 4
![]() | Framus Dragon-First Impressions Well after much delay I FINALLY got to crank my brand new Framus and see what I thought. I played it with my Orange 4x12 (V30's) and all-mahogany Carvin DC727. My only concern with the Dragon is that it might be too dark and bassy with my guitar of choice. I compensated by backing off the bass a little and using liberal amounts of treble/presence. The clean is really nice! Very chimey and bell-like. Jamming on Little Wing, Wait Until Tomorrow etc was killer. I haven't even gotten to the crunch channel yet but I am a huge classic rock/blues fan so I will get to that. Now the lead channel is what I bought this amp for. I boosted it with a Boss OD-3 (waiting on a Bloody Murder) and HOLY FUCK absolutely the most meaty, thick rhythm tone I've ever heard. My old Madison sounds very thin when compared to this beast. Stepping to this amp though, has me wanting a pickup change in my guitar just to make it a bit more clear and punchy. Stock Carvins are in there now, although I think now I will drop a Blaze or Evo in there. My biggest complaint with my old Divinity was that the solo tone was too bright and at times shrill. That problem is COMPLETELY FUCKING GONE and I couldn't be happier. There's this very gratifying thickness to lead notes now and it has more harmonic depth it seems-also sounds much darker. Very warm, fat, bluesy lead tone with no shortage of gain. When I played it I swore I was in Bogner territory. Again I can only imagine what upgrading to some well-made Dimarzios will do for the tone. To conclude, this is one hell of an amp. Definitely looser than Framus Cobra but I don't care. Boosted it's tight enough and new pickups will help that even more (not to mention a better OD pedal). The dynamics are just awesome. I've only played it for roughly an hour and a half so I'll be able to elaborate more later. One last thing I'll add is although the Orange is killer, I may end up ordering some different speakers for it later if and when I get tired of V30's. Thanks for reading! |
