![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OK, so the right channel of my ADA power amp has been weird lately. It'll suddenly go quiet, and then when I flick the standby switch on and off again, the problem corrects temporarily. It was becoming a nusiance, so I figured I'd replace the tubes and see if that fixed it. Well, I replaced the tubes (both just 12ax7's so no re-bias needed), and now the right channel is dead. The left channel sounds great, but I don't run a mono rig and I'm SOL w/o the right channel. I've messed with the innards of the unit over and over again, and I can't find a single wire or circuit out of place. It's absolutely baffling. I called around for a repair shop today, and there's only 1 amplifier repair shop in town (in a city of 5,000,000 people!!!) and he said "if" he can fix it, it would be a minimum of $175. So, I've had it with this amp. I used to own a Mesa 50/50 and a Mesa 2:90 and I never had any problems like this with them. I think I'm gonna get a Mesa 50/50 off e-bay with my christmas bonus next month. Man, this sucks. Thanks for hearing me vent!! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hahahah!! That's cool ![]() No way I'd repair it for $175 when I can buy it off Ebay for the same price. I'm just gonna wait until I see a mesa 50/50 for under $500 and I'll spring for that. I loved both my old 50/50 and 2:90 when I had them, but unfortunately I sold both years ago. I sold the 50/50 when I upgraded to the 2:90, and I sold the 2:90 along with an old Ibanez RG7 prestige (the vintage violin guitar) when I had financial problems back in 2002 (recessions suck). I've seen the 2:90 go for as low as $650 on Ebay, but I also remembered paying $200 to retube it once ![]() |

![]() I used to have a 50/50 years ago, and this one is about 10 times louder than the one I had. Today, I thought I had it set to a normal room volume, but when I hit the first note today on it, the friggin room shook. I checked out the tubes, and apparently the guy who bought this thing originally re-tubed it with Mesa 6L6 430s, and all I'd ever used before were 420s. Big big difference. This thing peels the paint off the walls. The tone is fantastic too, I'm glad I came back to Mesa/Boogie. This amp rules. here's the obligatory updated rack photo, front and back: ![]() Last edited by Vince; 11-23-2004 at 01:40 AM. | |

Never found another amp that can nail the Mesa saturated lead sound, and they sorta kill for rhythm, too, huh? ![]() "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |
