![]() ![]() | What strings for D standard/Drop C? Hey, I need to know what strings I should use for tuning to D standard/Drop C. Currently I'm using 9s for 1/2 a step down from standard and I like the sort of loose sound with a sharp attack like the sort of Tessaract/Meshuggah deal even though the sound I'm going for is not quite that metal. I like the feel of 9s 1/2 a step down as well, the feel of the tension and that. So what strings should I go for to get a similar feel/sound? I was thinking 9.5s but then I don't know what to use for the 7th string, a 56 or something? Or will 10s work for that deal? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 10s in either tuning would be fine IMO. (10-46) Hell, i use a 54 for a low B, so I'd say a 50/52 max for C tuning...but then again I like a little give in the tension Ramen! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 10-46 or 10-48 works perfectly for me in D. If I was going to drop the D to a C, I may use something like 10-13-17-26-36-52. Those 10-52 LTHB sets everyone makes are really unbalanced. If you have a 42 in G and a 52 in C, your G string is going to have a zillion more pounds of tension than the C. I understand people may want their unwound strings to be looser than the wound ones, but that still doesn't explain the odd gauges on the low end ![]() |
