![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good solo boost pedal for SS amp Hey guys, I need a recommendation on a pedal to use as a solo boost for my solid state head. Here's the deal: I currently have a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster pedal that I normally use as part of my bass rig. I decided to try it tonight on my guitar amp. While it has no problem boosting on my guitar amp's clean channels, it doesn't really do anything on the distortion channel. Any thoughts? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You should try a clean boost in the loop so you'll have a jump in volume instead of a jump in gain. The EH LPB-1 come to mind (it's not neutral, it boosts the bass a little) Bloody Murder #5 |

You need something in the FX loop. "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

I guess I covered both The EQ in the loop can give more volume while the Metal Zone will saturate and tighten up the preamp with a nice parametric EQ to boot! |

![]() | I've tried gain pedals in front of ss amps before and never really had much luck. Most times all it did was add noise. The overall characteristic never changed much at all(unlike how od pedals work with tube heads). Gotta go with the others and really recommend an eq of some sort in the fx loop. I've heard nothing but good things about the MXR M-108 (10 band) eq. Unless you want uber control and spring on a 1/3 octave rackmout eq. With 27 parameters you can adjust, it can almost seem like too much at times. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The mxr 10 band is good. It has volume and gain controls, which from what I understand is pretty much two volumes, ala peavey. I would actually recommend it backwards. Use the eq for rythmn stuff, you get the strong and punchy, and then step it out for leads, just set the amp up and then pull some volume off of the eq pedal (engaged is lower than not) |
