Picks and Tone

Hey guys, I'm always in search for the perfect pick (looking for feel and tone). Right now I've been settled on the Dunlop Tortex Wedge 1.14mm (purple) and have recently been using the Wedge 1.00mm (blue) and Wedge .88mm (green). I've noticed that the .88mm sounds alot better and yields more attack on the high strings but lacks the low end as where the 1.14mm sounds great with the lower strings but lacks clarity on the highs. The blue seems kinda stale to me as it's in between both and I'm really looking for something that sounds great on all strings. Perhaps it's impossible to find such a pick due to the type of material and size (I assume those are important factors of tonality). What type of picks do you guys feel have the best sound and feel/comfort?

it shouldnt be impossible - there are TONS of picks out there.

best part is, they're filthy cheap! grab 2 of each type from each brand and have at'er!

3 cheers for free gear!

great thread!

i used Dunlop Tortex Sharp 1.5mm for over 5 years because i just loved the feel of them. i just recently switched over to the black and red nylon Jazz IIIs (1.35mm?) for the simple fact that they just sound better to me... i forced myself to get comfortable with them just for the difference in sound (to my ears anyway).

i would say, buy a bunch of different picks, and find the ones that sound the best to you, you shouldn't have a problem adapting to the feel of a certain one after awhile.

I use EBE Medium Alien Picks, glow in the dark. It's something about the glow in the dark ones that feel and sound right. Maybe it's the material or something going on in my head, but other mediums from other brands and in other materials don't seem to give me that flexibility yet firmness. I'm currently talking to them about making me some of these with my mercury symbol on them

I use Dunlop Gator Grip 2mm picks and those have worked the best for me, I get the most control and a very crisp attack from em'.

I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ
