![]() | Thanks for the tips! Of course, if I could round up enough cash for a Mesa Boogie, that's what I'd be getting, or a vintage Fender Super Reverb. But my budget is what it is and I'm going to have to choose from whatever $400-450 will get me. I'm tempted to get the Peavey because I've had 5 Peaveys over the years (still have 3) and have found them to be reliable and I like the sound. I wouldn't even have considered Crate, but I read a lot of good reviews on Harmony Central. It seems they're made by Ampeg, which does do a pretty good bass amp . . . Find out the SHOCKING reason why Last Rites was called "scariest band ever" by the San Francisco MusiCalendar. . . |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A F-30 can be had with luck for around $500, and if you're looking for a heavy sounding amp with a great clean absolutely cannot be beat. It also has volume to spare. I've never played the Peavey, but I will say I was very surprised by the Crate. Great vintage-y tone, and it was fun to play. The one warning - it runs SERIOUSLY hot. I think I've heard of the things catching fire in the past, and the one I played was so hot that a few of the knobs became uncomfortable to touch, to adjust. To be fair, it was in a GC and probab;y had been on for a few hours, but still IU can leave my Rectoverb on all night and the body of the amp only ever gets slightly warm to the touch, and not physically uncomfortable like the Crate. They also have one of these for a lot more than I've been planning to spend: Mesa Boogie Express 5:50 Then there's this: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp I'll have to go there again and see what else is available . . . | |

The high gains are not that high gain. And the low gain sounds nice until you plug into the Lone Star right next to it, or a Nomad, or a Mark-IV, or even for that matter a Recto, assuming you can open up the poweramp a bit. The Fender's nice, too, and has great smooth lead tones. think Phish. the Blues Jr. kicks a fair amount of ass as well. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | a 410, 80W amp isnt much of a practise amp IMO, more like the jam/gig amp. i havent played the 410, but i loooved my 212. a speaker upgrade wouldnt have hurt it, but i had other plans for the money haha |
