I got the new guitar world magazine, even though i didn't like it much, i was happy to see a video review of the engl powerball.

That guy is a complete puppet. He's a good player, hes never once given anything a negative review. Ever. I'm not saying the Powerball isn't cool, but I'd take what anyone in a magazine says with a grain of salt.

That said videos up close with amps like this is cool, but I wish it was more than 5 minutes of talking and then 8 seconds of playing. Are you sure there isn't a part 2 to this?

I owned a Powerball, the clean channel is definitely pristine in terms of staying clean and being punchy, but it really lacks character. It's kind of compressed sounding for the most part. It needs a healthy dose of chorus and/or reverb to sound cool in my opinion.

Thick, tight, djenty, processed distortion is where the amp really shines, if that's the kind of sound you're after. IMO the Powerball is like a Krank except not grainy and horrible. Perfect for solid-state fans who want something much better not still not after a 100% organic tubey feel/sound.
