Boss GE-7 Equalizer

So by my understanding, it rounds the tone of your amp settings. As in smooths it all out. I'm thinking of getting it, but is there anything else I should be looking at? Mind this I'm going through a peavey Studio Pro 112

(Besides the BBE Shannon!)

An EQ boosts & cuts certain frequencies. Depending on how you set it, you can get all types of tonal variations.

What are your budget restraints? Another cool thing is the Aphex Aural Exciter.

I don't really have a budget, but I'd like to spend as little as I can.

Thumbs up

The Boss GE7 flat out rules. I've used it to make both my Line 6 Flectone II HD and a MEsa Boogie Dual Rec sounds sooooooo much better. I ran it thru the effects loop on the head itself...not from the guitar. It sounded alot tighter and alot more punchy. With lots of CHUNH CHUNG CHUNG, too.

I think it's like $100, I forget what I paid for it. But worth every penny. You can't get good tone cheap.

I had one at one point. Not too bad, but one kick will foul the settings.

If I had to do it again, I'd go with one of those 31 band eq's ala' slayer..

I am looking for something which I can take the preset amp distortion and just mold it into a sound of my own. Now from my understanding the Boss GE-7 Equalizer will do that and cut out the feed back out. I don't really understand all the 6.5 khz stuff. But my understanding is that is gives a boost to the level of which you're playing.

Am I write to make these assumptions, or should I be looking for something else?

It boosts and cuts certain frequencies like Shannon said. So you can shape your tone to your liking. I think you can cut feedback out by lowering certain frequencies but it'll affect your tone. If you want to cut feedback witfout affecting the tone too much then tht'd be the job of a noise suprresor, if i'm not mistaken. It dosn't really give a boost to your levels but to bass, mid and treble frequencies. You can decide which ones you want boosted and which ones have to be cut down. You shld also look into a MXR M-108 10 band EQ, slightly more control over your tone and if you can afford it you shld definetly look into 31-band EQs.

Actually, they use a 10-band MXR. Hell, Kerry King even had a sig model made of the one he's used for eons now.

I use a MXR 10-band eq, and I couldn't live without it!!

Especially with 7-strings, my amps 3 band eq doesn't really cut it, but after getting the MXR I don't need to worry about my tone, 'cause I can shape the tone into what ever I want. The eq is the only pedal I use!

In my opinion no other pedal etc. can have as much effect in your tone as a good eq.
