![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had an At100 2X12 combo for about a year and 1/2. I got a good deal on it so I thought I 'd give it a try. With a total retube, a 10 Band EQ in the loop and run thru V30's you can get it to sound pretty good. There are a lot of reliability issues with these amps, the shared EQ is a real bitch, they are much harsher sounding than a real Mesa and they muddy up with low tunings. When I started playing 7 string guitars is when I started to really dislike the one I had. They use cheap parts to build these and running a fan on them is mandatory or the thing will implode. Also their resale value is complete shit, so when you do get sick of it and try to sell it,......well good luck to ya. As far as being a poor mans Mesa? I think they sound closer to a JSX than a Recto. Play some side by side and you'll see. the Recto sounds HUGE next toa B-52. The B-52 uses diode clipping and has that compressed distortion that you get with that. I would save up a little more and find either a used JSX or a used 5150 II. ![]() Can I be the devil on your shoulder? ![]() |
